Luke Meehan Richmond Strength & Conditioning Coach Interview

Meh.

I'm always surprised that people are surprised when Lynch or Prestia do hammies. They're old, with a history of soft tissue injuries. The older you get, the more likely you are to reinjure.

Frankly, it'd be more surprising if they stayed on the park for a majority of the season.

And at some point, if you're paying them, you have to play them. It's not like we need to wrap them up in cotton wool to be ready for our 2024 finals tilt.

The question in my mind is not whether we hang onto the S&C team, but whether we hang on to aging injury-prone players who aren't going to be part of the next premiership.

With Lynch doing yet another hammy, obviously questions have to be asked of the S + C departments and specifically Luke Meahan. But questions also have to be asked of whoever appointed him, was it Livo? Was is Hartley? Seemed a lazy appointment at the time, just an easy internal appt. Did we scour the country for best available? And if not, Are we reaping what we sowed now?
Suggest it ain’t bad luck
Suggest extremely poor management of players

Can't say I am surprised that Lynch has gone down with yet another hammie. I know he has an aging body but or S& C team should have made extra allowances for that but no, we just blindly rush players back. Hooper has age on his side but will he last a full match on returns?

Losing Peter Burge was a major kick in the goolies.
It's Rob Inness we miss. He's the guy that led our fitness team during the dynasty. Squeezed out due to covid salary cap end of 2020. Doing good things at Sydney ever since.

Spot on Snagger,

It's no coincidence that Sydney run out games like we used to. Smashing everyone.

Meanwhile, we hired the work ex kid.

Such an obvious thing to do to bring Lynch back after the bye.
And yet they didn’t do it.
Our S & C is a painful joke, and externally a disincentive to join the club.
Another example of club hubris imho.

Why’s the club becoming amateur again? Had been set up so well. Complacency has snuck back in.

Incorrect Snagger.

He was our strength and conditioning coach. An important role, but he reported to Peter Burge who headed up our High Performance program and was ultimately responsible for our fitness during that era. Just like Meehan is now.

Innes was part of a great team in that space though. When players came back from injury they hit the ground running from the first quarter - running on top of the ground and rarely re-injuring.

He got a pretty big promotion to go to Sydney to head up the performance program. No way could we match that offer both $$$ and responsibility wise to keep him. Unless we booted Burge, which wouldn't happen given the runs on the board.

Done a great job in Sydney as you say.

Correct Leysy. The best in the business is not Innes. Its Burge.

He worked with Burge's when he was at the club for those years.
You would think he picked up a few ideas on how to condition the players.
