Little things that annoy you....

People who speed on the freeway and use their indicator
To change lanes. Why?? You're breaking the law so why bother with an indicator.

Serious?

While we're on the subject -

People who complain about others hogging the right hand lane and start quoting road regulations but when called out for speeding, reply along the lines of 'you're not the police so mind your own business'.

speed limits are way too low in this country. freeways in Europe have a 130kmh limit. why not here? its not as if the quality of our freeways are worse. I've also noticed a trend in Melbourne specifically where many speed limits on dual/triple/quadruple carriageways are inexplicably being dropped to as low as 60kmh. its infuriating.

Yep, and only after a car accident kills someone. Good ol' Vic Roads just get their 101 Basics procedures and reduce the speed limit on that road. Problem solved!.......not.

Nothing worse than people who flout the law complaining about others flouting the law. :police:

Your complaining about others breaking the law. I'm complaining about inconsiderate drivers who feel morally obliged to do what they want to deliberately annoy other road users.

Can't agree. The fast lane is the fast lane. The sign says 'Keep left unless overtaking'. That doesn't mean it's okay to sit in right lane at the legal limit if you are holding up cars travelling faster than you. So if traffic in the right lane is speeding, stay out of its way. It is possible to be driving faster than the legal speed limit and still be a safe driver.

Love it. Why hold someone up? Happy to let them go if they are zooming along. Cannot stand the right lane speed limit driver.

And agree with baloo and Ian too. Cars and roads are far too good to be travelling at 110.

Until something goes wrong. Don't forget, many road rules are made for the lowest common denominator. And in Australia, motorists are for the most part pretty much brain dead. And yet these very same people hold many jobs with great responsibility ::)

And this is exactly the attitude that annoys me. You complain about those in the right hand lane doing the speed limit. So what? You're not supposed to drive faster than the speed limit so it shouldn't affect you. If the traffic in the right hand lane is doing the speed limit, mind your own business.

Impatient idiots everywhere

And those who want to 'zoom' along shouldn't be behind the wheel of a motor vehicle. If they can't obey the road rules, the GET OFF THE ROADS!

Whilst on driving.....

It gets tricky, you drive 100 in the right lane but there's always someone who's up your clacker doing 100+kms. So you move to the left but everyone in that lane wants to drive 90-95. So you go back into the right lane but someone is up your clacker, so you move into the left but they're going 90-95.....

ROAD SAFETY ROAD RULES 2017 - REG 130

Keeping to the left on a multi-lane road
(1) This rule applies to a driver driving on a multi-lane road if—
(a) the speed-limit applying to the driver for the length of road where the driver is driving is over 80 kilometres per hour; or
(b) a keep left unless overtaking sign applies to the length of road where the driver is driving.

Notes
1 Length of road and multi-lane road are defined in the dictionary.
2 Part 3 deals with speed-limits.
(2) The driver must not drive in the right lane unless—
(a) the driver is turning right, or making a U-turn from the centre of the road, and is giving a right change of direction signal; or
(b) the driver is overtaking; or
(c) a left lane must turn left sign or left traffic lane arrows apply to any other lane and the driver is not turning left; or
(d) the driver is required to drive in the right lane under rule 159; or
(e) the driver is avoiding an obstruction; or
(f) the traffic in each other lane is congested; or
(g) the traffic in every lane is congested; or
(h) the right lane is a special purpose lane in which the driver, under another provision of these Rules, is permitted to drive; or
(i) there are only 2 marked lanes and the left lane is a slow vehicle turn out lane.

Penalty: 3 penalty units.

And here we go with quoting laws. Maybe you should start quoting the road rules that relate to 'speed limits'

Of course, like I said earlier in this thread, pet hate is people who break the law complaining about others breaking the law.

Not really. As I said, I was complaining about those who feel it's their moral right to act in a deliberate manner to annoy others on the roads. That's dangerous.

You made the statement if people can't obey laws they should get off the roads. I was just helping you understand who else, other than your speeders, is breaking the road laws.

Yet you have still failed to quote the road rules relating to obeying the speed limit.

I don't really need too. I wasn't silly enough to trip myself up and look foolish.

Blind rule followers I'm not a fan of. Most speed limits are arbitrary, not based on good science.

My job has involved me spending a lot of time driving in Melbourne, and in Ireland. The roads over here aren't better and neither are the cars. The drivers are comparable. The limit on most 'Motorways' is 120kph. I don't see more or worse accidents.

Another factor is most speedos are calibrated to a 'tolerance' so the speed you're seeing isn't always representative of your actual speed (and as the tolerance is a percentage its inacuracy increases with speed) and may be quite different to the driver behind you. You can see this by checking the difference between your speedo and your satnav, in general your satnav is more accurate.

I'm not foolish. You won't quote the laws relating to obeying speed limits because you and many others don't believe they apply to you. You try to ridicule people who call you and your like out for speeding, but are quick to start quoting laws when someone else is doing something not of your liking on the roads.

Most of the time, the right hand lane is either congested like the other lanes and crawling along or it is doing roughly the speed limit. People doing the speed limit in the right hand lane shouldn't be an annoyance to others because you're not supposed to drive faster than the speed limit and therefore they are not 'in your way'. All this talk of drivers driving along 30kph below surrounding traffic is rare in my experience. Most of the complaints are pure exaggerations made by impatient idiots who believe the roads are for them only and everyone else should get out of the way.

And also note the rules you quote 'over 80kph'. That does NOT include 80kph. SO, the rule doesn't apply anywhere except where the speed limit is 81kph or higher. Most likely freeways. Very few 90kph exist anymore. Most got reduced to 80kph. Most likely on roads where the traffic is already traveling at the speed limit. So unless you're breaking the law by speeding, it isn't an issue most of the time.

And to get home, I have to make a right hand turn from a busy dual lane divided road. I'll sit in the right hand lane for about 2kms before turning. Why? Because of right hand lane hoggers and even worse, those who complain about right hand lane hoggers who think they own the roads and refuse to let anyone else into that lane. Many of you are the cause of the problems by being disrespectful pricks on the roads. Everyone needs to get somewhere.

And just because someone sits in the right hand lane at the speed limit and you get upset doesn't give you or anyone else the right to tailgate other vehicles, flash your headlights, toot your horn or yell abuse and anything else to bully other road users.

Knighter's -

Use the speedometer provided by the vehicle manufacturer to determine your speed. ADR's specify they must be with 10%. Newer cars speedo's must read MORE than your actual speed, tolerance still 10%. At most speeds and assuming the average speedo is out by 5%, this amounts to only a couple of Kph. If you can't stand driving a couple of kph slower, then hand back your driver's license and take another form of transport. In case you haven't realized, not everyone has a satnav or GPS in their cars. So use the speedo and you won't have any issues. If you need to be somewhere at a certain time, then get off your butt and leave earlier. Using your speedo also gives you an extra margin of error so if you creep over the limit (according to the speedo) by a small amount, you most likely will not be fined. Nothing more funny than idiots using their satnavs and GPS's whinging about being caught doing 3 kph over the limit when the speedo would have been showing a bit more at the time.

And all for the sake of a couple of kph.

The problem Knighter's, is that the vast majority of Australian motorists are a thick as bricks. They care only about themselves. They think the road belongs to them and them alone. They have no clue as to the meaning of 'driving to the conditions'. And even less idea on what it means to share the roads (including the right hand lane hoggers you're all complaining about). You have to set speed limits low because many of these fools haven't the brains to slow down below the posted limit when conditions demand it. Drive any of Melbourne's road on a wet day and you'll see all sorts of idiot drivers out there driving around like it was a bright sunny day with completely dry roads. So there's your problem.
