Little things that annoy you....

small parking spaces no matter how neatly you park you still have to squeeze out of you car

Get a smaller car Knighter.
If you have a family then make them walk.
Some solutions are simple.

I make a habit of parking my passenger door of my little car very close to the SUV's drivers door so they have trouble getting in.

i make a habit of letting my car door 'rest' on the car next to me if they park very close.
good that you judge people without any knowledge about them.

judgemental people annoy me.

So you're the rude arrogant person who tries to make my life difficult when my car is parked poppa? Why? :headscratch

Not like you poppa - seems a bit petty :(

Maybe you're right Anfield.
But I have a big problem driving a small economical car when it comes to getting out of car parks.
I was onced parked in the middle of William St (I think) and I had two large SUV's either side of me.
My head was below the window height of both SUV's.
I had to drive out into oncoming city traffic without being able to see what's coming.
In the end I started the car, left the door open, waited at the front of the car for the lights to change, then quickly jumped in the car, drove out and prayed no-one was coming towards me.
I don't "hate" SUV's but I believe they should have their own parking areas, so that smaller car drivers don't have to risk their life getting out of a car park.
And please don't tell me to join the herd and buy an SUV. I don't need a big car, don't want one and my little car is better for the environment.

I maybe a "knob" and am happy to acknowledge it. But I think I have a valid point about SUV's in car parks.

I drive a Magna poppa & agree that it's hard to see when boxed in by big SUV's. Leads to something that really annoys me, drivers who don't acknowledge you after letting them past in a narrow street  or reciprocate when you've acknowledged them!

I'd no sooner tell you what car to drive than I'd expect you to tell me what to drive and where to park poppa. People often select their car to suit their circumstances. For example it's hard to fit all the family and all the associated paraphernalia in a parking-friendly Barina. I have a small SUV (Subaru) that is a private vehicle, farm work vehicle and mobile dog kennel among other uses. I would resent having restricted parking as you suggest on the occasional times I park in town. I've been in the same situation you have in regard to restricted sight of traffic but haven't found it a massive issue that can't be overcome. Our Hi Lux dual cab ute would impact on others vision more than our SUV would. Your suggestion sounds way too generalised and selfish to me. Maybe centering the car when parking rather than deliberately parking right up against the door of another car would help improve vision and ease of exiting a parking space. Just a suggestion. :hihi

What valid point do you have to excuse deliberately parking tight to another car to make it difficult for the driver to get in and out ? Knob was being nice.

I thought poppa was making his point on what KR said.

I also get annoyed trying to drive out of a car park with two oversized tanks on both sides. Even more so, when there are empty bases nearby.

Why park right next to another car???

Funny how a majority of these tanks nearly always have just the driver in it and no-one else. Waste of space.

Must be the superiority complex of having a higher seat. A bit like the truckies sometimes.

One of the cornerstones of our society TF is freedom of choice - so if someone wants to buy & drive an impractical 4WD monstrosity to drop off/pick up the kids etc then they have that right. If you consider them to be ignorant & arrogant wankers then you also have that right ;D
There are those that use these vehicles for practical/business reasons obviously.

I drove a delivery van in Hawthorn for several years and every second vehicle appeared to be a Volvo XC90, BMW X5 or Land Rover Discovery, it's a reality of modern life these days.

Nice to know there's another knob.
Maybe I'll buy two Hummers one for me and one for the misses and park each side of an SUV and see how they enjoy getting out of the car space.

I'm not telling people what to buy/drive. Just be more considerate of smaller cars when you park. Smaller car owners also have a right to be safe. And when it's dangerous parking at the local to get a bottle of milk then it's time to speak up.

The general gist of your argument is fine poppa - you may have derailed it yourself with the "deliberate parking close to the driver's door" bit is all :)

It became the fad on our roads in the last 20 years TIA. 4WD were more for the regional areas (as Rosy mentioned).

I've seen self-righteous 4WD drivers many times on the road especially during peak hours, hence, my 'little' annoyance.

Just last week, 7.30am when parking bays are empty, a moron with so much space on his right, decided to park next to my car within 50cm of my door. I come out of the newsagent, give him a glance and he just gives me wry smile. He must've had a bad sleep....

But you've said you're the one deliberately parking tight to 4WD to make it difficult for them, now you're saying you want 4WD drivers to be considerate ?

Hypocritical knob.

To clarify, when an SUV parks near the white parking line then I do likewise on my side which makes it hard for him/her to get back in the car. But they (a) choose to drive a car that is a tight fit in a car space setup 30 years ago for "normal" size cars and (b) many (I don't mean all) seem to be not able to park in the middle of the bay. Near enough seems good enough.

Here's an idea.
We have Disabled Parking Zones. BTW want to know what type of vehicle tends to ignore the rules more than most?) And don't tell I'm wrong because I see it every day.
Why not have zones for cars, coupes, hatches, sports cars, etc and a separate area for SUV's?
My little car's roof line is about level with my waist. Yet I have no problem parking next to a "big" Falcon or Commodore because I can see through their windows. But the bottom of some SUV's windows are 20-30cm above the roof line of my car. Now (1) tell me how that's safe and (2) explain how much more interior room a tall SUV has than a big Falcon or Commodore Wagon? Yes it's my choice, but someone mentioned it being a free country.

Over and out.

Funny you should bring that up TF. The exact same happened to me in Brunswick a couple of weeks ago. The guy could of parked anywhere closer to the supi but decided to cruise up and park so close to my car that i literally had to breathe in to get into my car. Luckily was there just as he got out of the car and gave it to him. Total ahole. He finished up getting back in his SUV and parking in the numerous other parking bays closer to the supi. Some people who drive these vehicles just have a god like attitude that need to be reset.
