Liam McBean

Liam's key problem is that he's neither here nor there at the moment - can't ruck effectively, can't take big contested marks, and his medium sized forward game doesn't cut it at AFL level where defenders are bigger, faster, stronger, and smarter. He needs to get on top of this and find a role before time runs out. His inability to kick more than one goal in five outings at AFL level where he kicks many goals at VFL level prove this, albeit in a poor side with a poorly-functioning forward line.

Wrong, wrong, wrong and wrong.

Hardly been rucked, yet surprisingly effective when used.

Can take contested marks. Will be moved off a few because he still needs strength and size development but takes his fair share.

His medium small game is not just good for a tall its excellent all round. He actually needs to be played forward for a reasonable part of the game to show this.

And his inability to kick goals has had nothing to do with getting shots or any of the above. It's that he has missed so many sodas at senior level which normally is a strength. There is little doubt that part of the game is not a problem for him if he gets regular game time.

And finally David is 100% correct. Liam was set up to fail, minimum game time mostly used as a decoy up the wings which he actually did quite well in his limited AFL game time. Found the ball well at wing, half forward, competed well and used it well.

You have an over inflated opinion of the value of your posts.

You are the equivalent of a loose hub cap. Noisy, creates the odd commotion or concern but ultimately not very serious or noteworthy.

Fair enough i suppose.

Can you tell me again how McBean will find it easier to score goals in the seniors than the seconds.

Has rucked quite a bit at the VFL level - hadn't you noticed? This was my point - he's had a variety of roles in the VFL which DC and you good self disregard.

Agree - hence my point that he's only 21 and still has time to fill out. Lots of time left, unless we shift him out at season's end which looks a possibility.

Don't buy that. For some games there was no Vickery or Jack in forward 50 - he had plenty of opportunity - and yeah, he did miss a couple of gettable goals. He did compete well at times, agree.

McBean may well stay on the list next year, yet still get limited opportunities.
It WOULD be interesting to see what sort of footballer McBean is if he had 100+ games under his belt, ala Vickery. Would McBean be further advanced than Vickery at a similar stage? Would McBean be an integral part of the team's structure compared with Vickery's contribution over 100+ games? In my opinion, at around 100 games a key position forward should pretty much be considered in the competition as game-changer, one of the more dominant players in the league. Vickery certainly hasn't developed to be one of those KPFs. Would McBean be such a player at 100 games? Just hypothetical nonsense really ... pretty much like the bulk of this thread.

Hubcap. Gold.

I was a fan for a lot of his time at Punt road and like others believe he should have got more senior oppurtunity, I've never believed his a genuine kpp , just think his a unique tall small, however after watching him at both levels a few times this year I think they may have got it right with him in the fact he just doesn't have the right tools , very weak/light in the marking contest , gets beaten way to easy one on one and so often the opponent sets up an attack from there contest, slow on the chase and simply just doesn't seem to work hard enough. I wouldn't be shattered if his on our list next year, however he won't be.

Give him a 1 year deal at least and I really hope he doesn't get Plapped.

Bumped from p3.

Seymore, Mabior & Eltz preferred to Beanie..

Hopefully everyone gets down to Punt Road tomorrow to cheer him on for what's likely to be his final game as a Tiger.

Dunno about that Tooheys!

Vickery probably gone, Griff unsigned.

Liam only young with high ceiling.

Reckon they would be mad to flick.

Had high hopes for this lad, but unfortunately I have not seen one thing I have liked from his games he has had in the seniors. Me and another Tiger mate both actually said he wasn't AFL standard the last time he played a few weeks back. I dont buy the idea of gifting him games in the seniors either. He has continually run to the wrong areas and into other forwards space too often. Needs to start thinking through his leads and running patterns. Also yet to see him really clunk a contested mark as well. Elton did a couple of times last week.

I live interstate so haven't seen much of him in the VFL but he does have the knack of kicking multiple goals.

Would love to see him take the next step. Still only young and very much worth another year or 2 imo. Sometimes we are very quick to get rid of kids so would like to see the faith kept at this stage. Really needs to work on his frame if he does. Gets bodied out too easily atm.

Which young uns do you think we got rid of too quickly?

Agree Carter. I would be keen for him to go around again with hopefully a new game plan and forwards coach.

Jay Schulz is a perfect example of moving a kid on too early. We drafted him at pick 12 then put 6 years into him and traded him for Mitch Farmer. Schulz went on to be one hell of a good full forward for a 4-5 year period.

Big guys take time to develop. Patience is needed. Hope they show some with McBean.

Yeah, can't agree with that example. Jay had 7 seasons with us for 71 games and 58 goals. If he hadn't cemented himself after 7 seasons I wouldn't say we got rid of him too quickly.
