Don't right off the Bean after one non appearance.

I'm not writing anyone off, just trying bring some perspective to the table. Daniher was widely seen as the best player from the draft, his second game lived up to the hype. If McBean is as good or better than Joe, then we have struck gold. I'm just not as convinced as some that he's Daniher's equal.

Daniher looks like he could be anything. *smile* Bombers.

Just reading over some of the old comments and many on here were claiming that McBean was the equivalent (or better) than Joe Daniher.

Curious to know if those with such glowing endorsements still feel this way?

Beanie is the more complete player.

Daniher is slightly more advanced physically and might turn out to be the better 'power' forward.

Bombers obviously done well but Beanie at pick 33 is gold.

Re: McBean - the legend grows

Only seen the Bean on tele a few times but looks OK from what's on evidence on a small screen. I wonder what he does beyond the borders?

On face value - if he maintains his agility and extraordinary balance as he thickens up - he could be anything.

Re: McBean - the legend grows

Nothings changed since that grey afternoon I watched him turn out for coburg in round 1.

Still the guy with a dazzlingly high ceiling.

Has the tools and the intent.

Like lamby said, a complete player.

Just because Essendon felt they needed a foil for a struggling Hurley and the interchangable rucks Ryder/bellchambers doesn't mean mcbean isn't ready to have an impact.

Daniher looks great, but don't forget their opposition on the weekend.

So...who out there owns a fashion or corporate clothing label?

Start designing the McBeanie! I want to buy one and show my support!

I would love a mcBeanie

Speaking of their opposition, wouldn't it be nice to see McBean debut against the Suns and kick a bag in a big win? In your face, Essendon! It's a dream, I know, but a nice one.

Re: McBean - the legend grows

I attended the 3121 Club pre-match function on Saturday, and the question was asked of Brendan Lade about why McBean was not named for Coburg this week.

Apparently, this 2 week block including last weeks bye, was a pre-determined playing break for Liam and he will spend the entire fortnight in the gym trying to add a few kegs.

Lade also said he was getting very close to senior selection if his form continues. Reading between the lines, it would only appear likely if a fall forward in the present team sufferred an injury and McGunn was unavailable.

Thanks for the info, but really, that's how you interpret it? Sounds to me like he'll be getting a game sooner than later if he can keep his form up. I like the 'out of the square' development decision to give him a couple of weeks break mid-season.

Re: McBean - the legend grows

Yes, That was my interpretation of his comments, but I did speak to someone else at the club, not a part of the selection committee but an "insider", who seemed to think that his body is not quite ready to take the physical contact required of a key forward.

The comment was made that we have recruited these mature bodies so that we wont lose games to the likes of Gold Coast when we have a few injuries, so I dont think they are likely to experiment with him too much unless it is as a sub in the GWS game. Remember how Elton looked last year?

Re: McBean - the legend grows

Yes agree, in the end it's probably about whether the club feels he can absorb the heat at AFL level. Saying that, he has had big-bodied opponents at VFL level and hasn't seemed to bat an eyelid. Think he is also much better performed than Elton was when he got his call up. Time wll tell,I won't be too disappointed if he doesn't get his chance this year, he's certainly a great prospective talent.

Re: McBean - the legend grows

His time will come, no need to rush him in.

The bigger the body playing on him the better really, nobody as big as Bean can go with him at ground level, he is a 2 meter tall crumbing forward!

That was my interpretation of his status too.

you mean he should fatten up on Royce potato chips ? ;D

I can only assume his mid season break is to be sure we can release him as our Finals weapon ;)

Re: McBean - the legend grows

This is the thing. He has six months to hit the gym after the season ends.

Two weeks now seems odd ... unless something is in the air this week.

The beans are cooking in the pot for the dogs to choke on.
