Kraka-Jack in the slammer?

I dunno Al but on 774 news it was reported the judge said the attack was unprovoked, brutal and prolonged.

Sad news for Krak. I feel for him but people can't get away with bashing other human beings to within an inch of their lives. Use the time wisely Krak and come out a better person for your familys' sake.

one thing i dont get is a few months back now some young guy beat and robbed an 80 year old grandmother in her home and put her in hospital and he got off because the judge said he wouldnt cope in an adult prison.

Yeah that's just *smile*; as is the legal system most of the time. But that said I think they got Krak's situation right.

]District Court Judge Kate O'Brien today sentenced the 25-year-old ex-Richmond Tiger for bashing 24-year-old Justin Martin by kicking him in the head and upper body during a fist fight on December 22 2006. ]

So if it was a kick-boxing fight, not a fist fight he would have got off? What Krakouer did was very wrong but there was a history between these people. They say it was unprovoked, which is clearly a load of crap if you take history into account. Think we have a bit of a scapegoat for the cause here.

My thoughts were it was a fight b/w 2 people over an issue of a girl & constant taunting and abuse. But my recollection was from a news report. If he has grounds for an appeal he should appeal but if what the judge says is true then he derseves a jail sentence.

It was a person from a family the Krakouers have been feuding with for a long time. As they said this person who was attacked king-hit Krokaouer years ago. Or so the story goes. So there were grounds for provokation. Still can't go around knocking people unconscious but I would have thought the whole situation would have been enough deterrent in the future with throwing him in the slammer.

Did Martin get time in the slammer when he bashed Krak 6 years ago? No??

Why not?

Wasn't that here in Victoria? As opposed to WA where Krak commited his crime?

I am shocked people seem to think he doesn't deserve a jail sentence  Dead set, what would some of you be saying if it was a member of your own immediate family? With the argument about the 'history' behind it all ... I'll think you'll find judges/magistrates look down upon 'revenge' attacks more than anything else.Taking the law into your own hands is most definitly frowned upon.

I wouldn't say I don't think he deserves a jail sentence, just that there have been far too many people do far worse things and get no where near the level of punishment that Krak got.
He was a first offender and there was a history between the two which meant it wasn't unprovoked

Two wrongs don't make a right. Just because some offenders are given FAR too lenient sentences doesn't mean we should be arguing that people should continue to get lenient sentences. In fact we should be arguing the opposite - The lenient sentences are the ones we should be looking at.

Not someone who has been given 16 months for nearly beating someone to death.

Again. You commit a revenge crime and walk into court and use that as your only explanation. Watch the magistrate throw the book at you.

From afar and not knowing the details of the incident other than what was reported[/b
I'm not sure what his sentance should have been. Funnily enough I dont work in the justice system.
Its just a sad sad sad end to a shocking incident.
Lets move on..

I also think the whole incident is very sad and hope that the Krakouer family are receiving support through this difficult time.

Let's just wait and see what white man Carey gets for bashing women and cops.

Please Claw dont say "a medal"

Well that's pretty crazy if true. Revenge attacks frowned upon more than some old person walking along the street minding their own business and getting bashed jby someone ust to steal a wallet for their latest drug fix? It's human nature to protect your own, we don't know the whole story, my guess is either does the judge. Krakouer's got his time now, Im sure he has already learnt his lesson. As people say a very sad situation.

Yes, the theory being that as humans, we should be able to make the correct choice in letting the correct authorities deal with the situation.

I honestly can't believe people are having a sook about someone getting 18 months for nearly beating a guy to death. It's astounding. It's quite sad to say, but some people will never learn until something happens to their own family.

Andy nearly beat a guy to death, the fact that they took another shot at him after he was out proves in itself the cowardly nature of the attack. 16 months? The young fella got off lightly.

Very sad affair.

Can't help wondering what he would have gotten if he were a white 25 yo merchant banker who was the son of a well known Perth gynochologist.
