Police officer furious at dropping of Flemington bash case
CHARGES have been quietly dropped over a riot in which an out-of-control mob attacked and injured police.
The policeman who laid the charges said last night he was disgusted at what had happened and he believed there was no justification for abandoning the case.
He said he suspected the matter may have been dumped because those charged after the incident at Flemington one year ago were of north African descent.
"That could be a factor. I wonder if that applies to youth in Sunbury or Craigieburn or Broadmeadows," he said.
Sen-Sgt Benedetti said four teenagers arrested were initially hit with charges including assaulting police, assault in company, resisting arrest and hindering police.
When those charges were dropped, less serious counts, including offensive behaviour, remained; but they were also withdrawn last month.

Supt Jack Blayney said last night: "The withdrawal of these charges followed consultation with the members and youths concerned and was deemed to be the best outcome for both parties.
"There are a number of pro-active projects in place at the moment which are aimed at improving relations between some youths in the Flemington area and the police, to increase social responsibility and awareness."

Teenager charged with murder of Sudanese boy Daniel Awak in Adelaide

Daniel Awak stabbed to death
14-year-old charged with murder
Second boy in critical condition
A 14-year-old boy has been charged with murder over the fatal stabbing of schoolboy Daniel Awak, as Adelaide police braced for possible retaliation within the city's Sudanese Australian community.

Police would not confirm whether the accused was allegedly involved in the stabbing of a second Sudanese Australian boy during the brawl in central Adelaide's Grenfell Street on Wednesday.

The injured boy today remained in a critical condition.

Police said earlier they had not yet identified a clear motive for the deadly attack but understood a number of altercations had led to the brawl, which involved about 12 Sudanese Australian youths, all from the same tribal group, fighting with knives in the city's centre.

Senior police met today with leaders of Adelaide's 1500-strong Sudanese community.

South Australian Police Commissioner Mal Hyde said relations between police and Adelaide's Sudanese community were good, but officers were concerned about the possibility of retaliation in the community.

As a safety measure, police would undertake extra patrols in key areas of the city where Sudanese youths were known to gather or frequent, he said.

With knife attacks on the rise, the commissioner also said he wanted to see metal detectors more widely used to help police crack down on knife carriers.

"We need to look at the circumstances in which police can search for these dangerous weapons," he said, acknowledging police could not prevent every knife attack.

"But we need to make sure that a culture doesn't grow where the carrying of knives, particularly among some groups, becomes the norm."

The family of Daniel, a 14-year-old schoolboy, held a news conference today and said they did not harbour hard feelings over his death.

"He died probably because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time," Daniel's uncle, Bol Machar, told ABC radio.

"Thongjang (Daniel) was a bright boy, caring, loving, and mingled with other people very well.

"We love him so dearly, we are proud of him and we miss him a lot," he said.

The boy charged with his murder will appear in the Adelaide Youth Court on Monday, police said.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested at the scene of the attack and charged with aggravated assault on police and resisting arrest.

This type of icident is appearing all too frquently in the media of late.
How well are these African youths assimilating into Australian culture?
On the face of it it would seem not very well. :-\

Teen stabbed in knife fight at Fairvale High School
Article from: The Daily Telegraph
November 15, 2008 12:00am

A TEENAGER is in hospital with knife wounds to his head, back and hand after being stabbed during a fight at a Sydney high school yesterday.

The 17-year-old is in a stable condition at Liverpool Hospital after the attack at Fairvale High School at Fairfield in Sydney's southwest about 11.30am.

Police said yesterday they were questioning two 15-year-old males about the incident.

A spokesman for the Department of Education and Training said there was a "brief but serious altercation involving two students at the school".

"No other students were threatened or involved and police handling the matter confirmed there was no threat to other students," the spokesman said.

Of course they're not martyrs.
They had appeal after appeal to try and worm their way out of it to begin with and apparently smart-arse Amrozi not only went white with fear as he was lined up by the executioners, he was also the quickest to die.
Martyrs my arse.

However, I do agree with what you said earlier 100%.....these 3 cretins were just pawns for Bashir.
If the CIA were ever to send a crack sniper somewhere, it should be to fix this old bastard up as he will use the 3 cretins being killed to try and incite even more violence.

What these cretins needed to think about as they were being indoctrinated with venom and told stories of virgins and Islamic paradise....is if it is so great to kill yourself in the name of Allah, why don't people like Bin Laden and Bashir set the example and do it first?
i think the point that needsto be remembered is it seems the majority of muslims in this country are of a like mind as the martyrs who did it. recruiting would be bombers and terrorists in these countrys would not be hard.

Claw,
I hope you are wrong.
However, until the majority of Islams speak more loudly in protest at extremism and violence tarnishing their religion and take it upon themselves to rescue their religion as the 'loving and kind' religion they want to portray it as, then I feel you may be on the money. :-\
