I thought Caddy was exposed a bit last night. But Mr Damien Hardwick was a bit too.

When Caddy was set to space early by Richmond it felt like a ploy. And when he was hunted down or heated or trapped it felt like Buckley was all over it.

It might just have been that Caddy was a bit lame and that the ball didn't go in right. But there was an element of the Pies being on our targets. A bit of Buckley having a win.

I've been a Caddy hater in my time but I've come right around to him when he plays tall. It was his running/leading game that was exposed tonight.

I'll be arguing over the next couple of months that we need to get faster. And maybe Caddy is one who needs to be replaced. But as a tall forward I think he's been good and continue to be.

The other factor that really hurt Caddy in the night, that exposed him, was the absence of Martin. Buckley knew Martin couldn't walk. And Caddy had to bat higher.

Jury out IMO.

But the need to get faster thing is very real.

Great points Jack.

I was dissapointed Balta was not given a run. Raw yes, but has pace and a huge leg. We must regenerate. No guarantee to make finals next year.

Like a lot of our players he had a mare , however averaged over 2 goals a game for the season, another who will benefit from Lynch. Does a lot of good work off the ball , he’ll be there in round 1

On the drive on the way home we discussed the forward setup next year ,

And from a balance point of view , despite his great form this year , could lynch for caddy plus 3 small quicks be the right mix ?

Not sure we can have 3 similar players in terms of leg speed and lack of agility in the same 22: Caddy, Conca, and Graham. Would expect Caddy to play a bit more midfield next year, 1 of these players may have to make way. We were exposed last night when the ball moved out of the immediate congested area.

DeGoey is so valuable because of his pace. Doesn't do a lot defensively but but can. Caddy looked slower than usual tonight.

If u swap caddy and mihocek tonight caddy probably would’ve kicked 4 goals for them. Ball was coming in beautifully for their fwds and there was space. We were lumping it on their heads with good aerial players like Howe and Langdon to kill the ball.

I agree his pace is a concern - but he kicked almost 50 goals for the year and has been a proven finals performer in the past. It was just a bad night all round.

This.

Watching on the telly, I saw Caddy often competing manfully for pack marks, but the packs were 5-7 players thick because of our predictable crap of bombing it in long to a congested area. Our entries into F50 were generally sub-standard, and, what was particularly disappointing about this, such actions were 'within our control' (a phrase Dimma likes to use.)

Caddy (like many of his teammates) played their worst game for the year. The coaching staff need to look at why so many players saved their worst to last...

I'd say it's a job for the team psychologist more than the coaches.

Had a real shocker. The gap between his best and worst is as wide as the Pacific Ocean.

He needs to find ways to contribute more when he's not having a great night. And *smile* he slow.

Yep, reckon in general forwards need to be given some slack. We had just 48 inside 50s for the game. It was our lowest number of inside 50s for the season. Our AVERAGE for the season is 59. And many of them went to Reiwoldt as a target (and he marked a few of them). And the quality of the entry was woeful.

Had a fantastic season and could stroll into any team in the comp.
Unfortunately had an off night. You don't take a sample size from one game.
AA squad. Say no more.

He had a bad night but a forward line of Jack Tom and Josh isn’t going to fit the bill for forward pressure.

I think with Tom the gameplan of pure forward pressure is going to be a thing of the past. Having those 3 will be potent, the other 3 will need to be our best forward pressure players. Saying that Caddy puts on his fair share of forward line pressure according to the stats.

Probably his worst game for the club.

Sadly yes. He was back to the Cement Boots Caddy I remember.
He was looking like an AA candidate mid year but his form tapered right off in the back half of the year.
Did he start to believe his own hype?
I agree if Lynch comes then he could be the casualty.
