Josh Caddy

Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

interesting game from Caddy. you didn't notice the influence he was having. he seemed quiet but wasn't. that's cool.

Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

Caddy did some hard things / competed AND allowed Duty to do his thing in the forward 50.

Out next week Hunt / in Markov, we need his run..

Not a fan, reckon we'll regret not taking the pick in the 2nd round.

Given that player was Brandan Parfitt it's hard for me to disagree.

That will be the bottom range of his output. He will have better games. 17 touches, 2 tackles and a goal is not the worst performance for a mid/forward. I still think he's got plenty to offer

Kicked just about the goal of the night but that aside I thought he was rank average.

He is no Miles that's for sure.

On the plus side, I re-watched the game and it's clear Josh is instructed to fly in contested pack situations. He is playing the role Lennon might realistically apsire too.

He mostly did pretty well in bringing ball to ground, Cost us a goal once cannoning into Nanks down back for no good reason.

He is solid B grader. Problem with Josh is that he is not exceptional in any one area. Not flash outside, big but not super clean inside, kicks well but often misses goals he shouldn't, covers ground but is not quick. He marks well and is not bad forward but not really good enough to demand a spot as a key forward. He is Jack Dyer's classic good ordinary footballer pretty much in the Conca class when Reece is fit and firing.

With very few talls he might be valuable for 'structrure'.

Next week though I'd be punting Hunt for Miles. I just don't get it?

Disagree. You are seriously underselling Caddys ability. BTW you are not alone here.

Caddy is a footballer. Smart one too. He might not rack up big numbers but he does things that allows our stars to shine. Exhibit A - Martin.

Agree 100%. Caddy competed in the air really well last night and bought the ball to ground to allow the smalls to lock in and hassle. And it's one game, really hard to say he's behind a player who hasn't debuted yet.

I rate Caddy as a B grade footballer, I thought pick 24 was fair value at the time but I also rated Parfitt as a top 20 talent and was slightly miffed he was the guy Geelong picked. As others have pointed out, he fills a role but it's the same role Parfitt could have filled for the next 10 years. Despite Caddy being a better overhead mark, Parfiitt trumps him for speed, agility & x-factor. Don't get me wrong, we haven't been totally bent over but I probably would have preferred to keep the pick and recruit Barlow.

Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

Caddy is a bit too slow for centre square work and he's not great below his knees.

I think he's a HFF who can play inside 50 and up the ground a bit.

A clearance machine he is not.

What happened to his burst of speed?

Thought he was just servicable last night. Hopefully that's as bad as it gets.

Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

Slightly disappointing, had that "bad Richmond" look about him. If it had been a loss, the knives would be out. Still finding his place in the scheme of things.

You're kidding right. He busted a pack because he hit it at pace. He looks fast because the other players are actually standing still.

There is not fast and slow. There's a lot inbetween.

He busted out of the pack and "hit it at pace" as you say because Caddy has a good burst of acceleration.

Sure if you if put him in a 100m sprint with Markov he'd lose handily, but that is not needed as a 6'1-6'2 inside mid who pinch hits forward. I love Milesy and we should be playing both of them, but he doesn't have Caddy's initial burst out of congestion as an example.

interesting point. Its the second attempt at the Townsend principle? and yeah, good start when you think of it like that.

Exhibit B - Dion.

Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

Barnzy look at your clip again. there are over a dozen people in the vicinity. Only one is running. All others just standing there. I'd look fast in that clip.

Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

I don't think he has a good burst of speed at all. Not to the naked eye.

Geelong probably found that out too.

Draft testing however indicated he was quite good in this area.

Weird!
