Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

Martin , Cotchin , Prestia , Caddy , Miles - That is probably a top 6-8 midfield starting 5

What we are lacking is a Big inside mid like a Cripps that is 190-192 cm 89 kgs beast but needs to be top shelf

Hopefully 2-3 of our younger players can also step up and fill the void with rotations

Corey Ellis , Jack Graham , Oleg Markov , Kamdyn McIntosh , Ben Lemon , Connor Menadue - The talent is there just have to get them to the level required

Forget Top 6-8, it is a TOP midfield. You are missing Vlastuin and Edwards out of that group.
Edwards was off last year - but prior years had improved to Elite....all players have off years.
Vlastuin is finally able to cover the KM's as proven in his standout TT. He is a competitive beast and would add great power to the already powerful mids.
Prestia is a different type of mid - one we have not had - he can get his own ball and go forward with it and he can defend/tackle . He doesn't just hack it out of the pack or go sideways. He is not far off the same class as Fyfe and Danger in that regards. Dusty also can do this to a large extent but doesn't have the same defensive ability.
Cotchin will be able to do more work on the outside - aka 2012...ok I am hoping here anyway... In fact I would even make him a tagger or sorts! He is smart enough to know when to leave and when to stay.
Martin will see plenty of time here but mixing it up with Caddy.
I also wonder if we may even see Rioli tagging a mid occasionally ...... maybe in future years - he seems to have the skillset to be a modern great in that area.

This midfield can get the hard ball AND run and carry. Miles is probably the odd one out, who may play a lot of emergency roles this year. I think he is going to have to learn to run both ways or he could be a tradable at the end of the year.

The question will be how good is it's defensive ability. That is what makes could take it to the next step.

The defensive pressure applied from the forwards and mids will probably be the thing that defines our year. That should be the one of the biggest changes from last year to this. ...That is if we do add in Vlastuin and Prestia and move Dusty more up forward and Miles probably more as a reserve.

With the ability to kick the ball in quickly to better spots and go through the midfield, I would have Jack stay more as a permanent forward as well.

Caddy - since this is the thread - will play a vital role being a link player in the mid and forward line.

Exactly. And adds hardness which we lack.

The midfield is the least of our issues i reckon. I have no idea where the goals are going to come from.. rotating dusty, cotch, caddy won't be enough.. especially if dimma continues to play Jack up the ground more... relying on Griff and kids like markov (if not on HB) and Rioli is not enough. to inconsistent. Can't win many kicking 75 pts a game.

Benny Lennon is going to step up as the lead up forward and kick 35-40 goals in 2017. The kid is flying, he is super fit, super motivated and looking cherry ripe for the 2017 season.

Get on the Lennon lorry.

Not to worry.

We have Todd Elton, the bloke who rarely performs well at VFL level who some want to play seniors to "see what he can do" after how many seasons on the list?

We are certainly in dire straights with our KPP's if one of them go down with a LTI.

I reckon we'll kick more goals than this year. We were so predictable this year and having only the two key forwards and a few different quality smaller guys rotating through the forward line will create a lot more mystery. Rioli will be better for his first year too.

Part of the answer is being able to kick to more dangerous spots - closer to goal and more in front (etc). We should be able to do that with the new mids and a slightly modified game style. Dimma is not as dumb or as bad as many think and with his new assistants he will work on a more direct game style. He will realize that you can not go around the boundary in todays game and ultimately be successful and I think he was under the belief (rightly) that we could NOT go through the middle last year with our lack of defensive mids. Have we changed enough in this area? hopefully - as Leppitch stated, they are working on the tackling and defensive side as a priority.

The game will change again this year - that is the only certainty. But in what way? Will it be to our advantage or not? The lack of 3rd man up will help us moderately against teams like Geelong. But how it really changes is an unknown....

Going more direct also means we have to apply more direct pressure. If we can do this - mark my words - we are close to a top 4 side. If not - we will not go far.

We do lack a pack marking target, but the way modern footy is played this is not the biggest problem. We will greatly miss Deledio (the trade had to be done though for the long term potential gain) and his forward marking ability. Griffiths and Nankervis need to be able to bring the ball to ground - which they can.

BUT/AND

If Jack (and I think he will) stays closer to goal he could go back to kicking 65+
Lloyd is good for 35+ and I expect could improve a little again this year.
Rioli - it may be early for him to make a big difference, but he has put on the required size. I expect big jumps in output this year and for the next few.
Bolton - may fit surprisingly well as a crumber. This means Griffiths or Nankervis just have to bring the ball to ground to let our smaller brigade go to work.
Then there is the forgotten Edwards...
Dusty and Caddy will be able to get goals up forward.
And lastly - if all of that is failing..... Isolate Dusty and Jack and kick it long. Let Rioli converge as his minder won't keep up.

The point being, there are ways of making our forward line functional - even though it is not a marking forward line. More importantly the goals need to come from two things
1. Quick bursts out of the middle/packs (direct footy)
2. Defensive stops. We have to simply stop them more than they can stop up.

Good start, but wasn't bright enough. This is what we need at this time of year.

Not quite up to the Baloo standards I know but you have dropped the ball in recent times. I suspect the Gus Bus was the zenith and you will not reach those heights again.

Has to posted again.

Big bodied contested mid who makes good decisions, goes forward and kicks goals and coming into his prime at 24..

Pick 24?!

Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

The pick of the night.

He is a very smart footballer with exceptional hands in close and when going for a mark.

Also a leader. He was very vocal out their tonight.

Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

Was one of our best forwards all night, good pick up by the club.

Possible captaincy down the track? Depending on how things progress for Cotch's career of course. If it was decided there was need for a change in captaincy, you could do worse than pick a bloke whom doesn't have any baggage in the context of the current playing group.

Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

Who was that injury prone bloke we shafted GWS with? This guy will slot in just nicely for 5+ years

Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

geez he looked good didn't he?

love seeing some size in the midfield.
