Joel Bowden farewell [Merged]

As others have said, who the hell keeps making these decisions at Punt Road???

Anyway, good luck Joel. Thank you for a brilliant career. You were a joy to watch.

Always a fan

Same here and I'd like to know who's making these decisions.
Rosey, I would suggest that the Richo faction has a lot to do with Bowden's predicament. dare I say it that we may be in this position soon - "due to lack of experienced players on the list Richo will be retained on $800k a year as we need his unselfish type to teach the young players how to be solid footballing ambassador's". I would also suggest that Lid's public comments about the blade and Richo being needed might also be attached to the theme that is being played out! So, Gale's appointment takes on even greater meaning in relation to breaking down this unwelcome faction.

The new coach may even talk Bowden out of retiring? What's being played out here is quite fascinating, and depends on whether you drink boags or cascade.

Laughable the way some are carrying on about Bowden being treated shabbily.

Fact is he is lucky that the club is giving him a farewell game at all given how unsuccessful this club has been over the course of his career and where we are at.

Open your eyes people. Bowden has had a good career but it is at the end.

Farwell Joel.
It will be sad to see you farewelled after a 13 goal flogging as some of the duds playing
have no idea about spirit!!!

Ok again let's blame Joel for the clubs appointment of Wallace and poor recruiting...give me a break...Joel would have been a walkup start in any Premiership side over the last 10 years.

I've been very critical of Joel in the past 2-3 years, I believed his time was up after 2007, still do actually
That being said, I was a big fan of his prior to that, especially as a junior, shame he never lived up to the promise
I don't think he's being treated badly in all this at alland he's conducted himself with dignity as always.
Best of luck to him in the future with whatever he chooses to do outside football

typical rfc overrating of its own. joel ene has been ordinary for a big chunk of his career. though a nice and intelligent bloke apparently.

What does the club's lack of success over the course of his career have to do with Joel playing today? If for no other reason Joel's form has warranted selection.

what?

...anyway good luck to the bloke and I'm glad the club is trying to move forward...some of our supporters should try it too.

Then why the emphasis on a farewell game? Why is he only being given one game in that case?

Why? because the club is rightly looking forward after yet another failed season and looking to get games into younger players who can play his role.

Whilst I feel that Joel does deserve a sendoff game, I find it strange that some think he's being treated shabbily by the club because by playing him today the club is showing him the respect he deserves. Not giving him a farewell game would be 'shabby' treatment.

Can you explain why you think Joel is lucky that the club is giving him a farewell game at all given how unsuccessful this club has been over the course of his career please ToO. I don't understand that sentiment at all.

I'm looking forward to farewelling Joel and at least he is being given a farewell game, not like Andy Kellaway or the great Jimmy Jess, who elected not to play in the seniors that night, but finished his career in the twos. Personally I would have preferred to see Joel retired at the end of last season, but Wallace didn't like to make the hard decisions unless it was a player he personally didn't like.
It is sad that Joel never reached his full potential, he could have been great, instead he settled for good.

Congratulations Joel Bowden. An absolute top class bloke. Just listening to him on 3AW and he comes across as a genuinely humble and intelligent person.

Said that playing for Richmond is a priviledge, but isn't upset about having his last game, as it's been on the cards for a couple of years and has been preparing it for a while, but loves Richmond and is looking for a role inside footy, but wants to go away and do some study before looking for work.

Said that he had a shocking first half, and at half time told himself that he had to run much much harder to get from contest to contest, and was the reason behind getting heaps of possessions in the 3rd and 4th quarters.

farewell to a quality bloke. obviously a shame it ended the way it did.

I hope after today people will realise that VFL form counts for very little and that Bowden played one season too many. I have some good memories, but more bad ones that I ever should have after the night he kicked a few against the Eagles and it looked like the club had uncovered a real goer.
