Does Leysy ride $200 push bikes in the park?

I wonder if Cuz realises "one could go to jail for takin' drugs all night"...

1983...Reckless got stuck in my head after being played ad infinitum on the radio, prompting me to purchase my first album (Phalanx). The combination of live set, obscure lyrics (e.g. Love Beats Me Up), and James Reyne's unique vocal phrasing made the words to some songs impossible to decipher, so I bought Sirocco as well, which had the lyrics printed inside the cover (much less common then than now).

What transpired was both sad (band's failed change in musical direction and subsequent breakup) and tragic (deaths of Guy McDonough and Brad Robinson).

Had some decent songs as a solo artist, but much like Jimmy Barnes/Cold Chisel, it's not quite the same.

Favourite three James Reyne/Crawl songs:
1. Unpublished Critics
2. Beautiful People
3. Hoochie Gucci Fiorucci Mama

Edit: add Simon Binks' car accident to the list of tragedies.

Have been a semi-fan for years. Fall of Rome, Mr. Sandman and Rip it Up are probably my 3 favourite songs of his.

He has had some really quirky lyrics over the years that are quite amusing. Here are some of my faves:

" Went for a walk down Rodeo Drive, saw Barry Gibb he was stayin alive".........La Califusa (Aus Crawl).

" He got hit by a car. He was lying on the tar. An experience bizarre. Not unlike peninsula-ra-ra-ra"..........Indisposed (Aus Crawl).

The only singer around that can Squeeze any line into any tune, if it don't fit he will make it fit.

"People aren't used to hearing 'Dorseted', and it's not actually a word - it's from the Dorset Gardens - I'm trying to be as suburban as possible, and it rhymed with 'corseted'." - James Reyne, 2003 (from Wiki)

Saw them at the Dorset c.1984 - packed house, good vibe, but can't remember any songs they played that night...

Gave a nice plug to the pub. ;D

Haha the old Dorset Gardens. Thanks Lids... always wondered what the hell he was on about - in every song not just that one.
They might have had an over 28's back then where many muttons went dressed as lamb.
Growing up in the eastern suburbs of Melb there were so great places for Aussie rock. The Dorset, The Manhattan, The Middle etc.
Still remember going past The Middle as a kid and seeing the sign out the front that advertised some band called AC/DC was playing on the weekend.

Lucky you TD. Growing up in the north limited me to just inner city pubs. ;D

I'm a 40+ bugger now, but I miss the good old days of real pub music with the smokes around (even though I never smoked).

I saw James and an even better performer (Mr Mark Seymour) last year at the Corner when they were doing shows together. Very nice.

Best James Reyne memory is not even from James but from the D Gen circa 1985 when they did a skit of him where they put subtitles on screen to translate "James" words. Subtitles like " I've got no idea what he's saying here" and finishes with "James" saying:

"Thankyouverymuch...bestaudiencewe'veeverhad! woohhh,oohhh!"

I listen to Australian Crawl and James Reyne on a regular basis and am a fan of both. My favourite tracks are:

1/ Downhearted
2/ Hammerhead
3/ Things don't seem

These shouldn't detract from other songs. I like a lot of the music by James Reyne and Australian Crawl. These 3 stand out for me though.

Cheers
