Jack Ross

Papers should have been stamped long ago, his disposal is disgraceful. Had a seat two from the front yesterday and haven't sat that close in ages, already knew he couldn't kick but was just metres away when he missed a two metre handball under little pressure, an absolute momentum killer. Him and Aarts are our canaries, when you see them playing in the same team you know we're in trouble. Aarts as the medical sub was a joke, not versatile enough to start with and gave us nothing when he went on and not AFL standard. Can't get Prestia and Dusty back quick enough otherwise our season will be gone within weeks playing these types, they're Richmond circa mid/late 80s.

Has seems to have gone backwards since his first 5 or 6 games when pushed out of the side because senior players were coming back into the side. Really we haven't had too many young guys step up and have a big impact since probably 2019

Jack Ross is the almost footballer. If he'd had a better second half last week he'd still be in the side but he didn't so again he finds himself out on the fringe.
Probably a bit stiff, has played better than Edwards but Titch has a lot more runs on the board and has earned some breathing space.

Edwards can break a game with 3 handpasses, Ross cant.
The 2022 Edwards can’t but let’s hope he gets back to his best sooner rather than later. He has been a great player for the club.

Feel sorry for Ross. He needs consistent games. Shedda who looks done was given about 7 years of totally inconsistent performances before 2017 where he hit his straps.

Having watched him for a while now I think his biggest problem is leg speed.
Unlike the good midfielders in the comp, his first few steps aren't quick enough & he finds it hard to get separation in the contest.
The game has only gotten faster again this year & he's often under pressure & his disposal & decision making suffers accordingly.
Unfortunately for Jack's future, these things are unlikely to improve.

Comparatively Dow looks at home at the pace of AFL level.

One of the few who didn't have a road game. Levelled up IMO. Smart hands were new. And improved hardness. Worked better in formation.

Like.

I had a seat 2 from the front last year at Metricon. Ross came on as sub for (Caddy) on the wing and was solid. He didn't stuff anything up. He also played the game vs Hawthorn well. He can play but does turn it over too. Just not advancing enough.
Cotch, JR, Graham & Edwards seem to be locks. Edwards maybe as sub for a few weeks. Graham?? underperforming too. Mansell IN. He played Kosi Pickett well last year. Rioli & Short aren't defenders.
Dow has looked generally good. But with Lambert, Kmac, Stack ready to play. HRS for sure. Dow: leave him IN preferably. Parker probably out too for Stack. Ross out for Kmac

I'm not sure whether Jack is going to be a long time lock but I know I'd prefer to give him a good run at it. People ( supporters) are dreaming who think the old crew have another wack in them. We have to have a mix of old and new as we regenerate. The youth have hunger they just need to believe!
