Jack Ross

Can't? course you can. Head scratching anomolies happen all the time in footy. Players can be flash in the pan, plodders can star in a big game out of the blue, players can be a gun for 50 or 100 games then die in the arse etc etce. all sorts of things can happen.
and players can go through form slumps. need to understand what's going on. reckon he gets one more year.

I love when a player like Kamdyn or Marlion wins a 1v1 contest in the final quarter. They never lose.

Brandon Ellis learned to overcome his anxieties and win those crucial contests like a Richmond player always does.

But Ross... the word "aggressive" was synonymous with his name pre-draft. Super-aggressive Jack Ross, the young man who looks like Joel Selwood and walks in with a mission statement to become a future captain.

I guess it takes time.

Thats not my recollection.

I can recall saying from the outset, a bit like a stuck record,

this side isn't big enough for Graham and Ross.

which suggest Jack Ross never, ever, played, remotely in the fashion you recall.

there is a really weird collective consciousness going on with Ross,

and I cant hate it, because it's positive.

But it fascinates me.

I think its a new kind of cognitive bias?

I'll call it

The fills-a-desperate-need delusion

whereby, you judge whatever is available, as adequate to fill your needs.

It doesn't just apply to footy list management,

you could need a wife, for example, to meet your culinary, intellectual, emotional and physical needs,

and a really quite dumb, menopausal woman who cant cook, or make meaningful connections with other people,

smiles at you in a pub,

and in your mind, she becomes your perfect match.

So true.

And the fills-a-desperate-need-delusion was encouraged by the stats sheet.

42 possessions gets you over 0.05.

It's like a 4/10 date, seeing her social media photos afterwards when sober, then convincing your mates she looked like her photos.

Love Dimma's handling of stats. Everyone else is on photoshop while he's in after effects.

in the spirit of positivity, I have Ross ahead of Aarts and Naish, as depth.

He is no where near the level of Coughlan. We quickly forget how good Coughlan was.
Didn't say he was near the level I'm saying he's that type in and under head over the football when he is allowed to play his natural game.

Do NOT ever put Ross and Coughlan in the same sentence. Coughlan would have been a 300 gamer and captain of the Tigers. Injuries crueled. I had Cogs on the same level as Voss.
What i saw today from Ross was inexcusable. I can take the lack of pace or odd crappy disposal but he pulled out of 4 contests today. 4 in one game. Most blokes do 1 a game. Egg gets criticised for the same thing and Ross played scared. Ive seen enough. Trade, trade and trade
This is the problem everyone expects kids to be ready made hes played 20 odd games mostly out of position and no reserve games at all last year and only a handful of games this year. Someone like Aarts can run around for almost a whole season and barely get a touch and he keeps getting a gig because he tries hard.

you don't show that kind of form on debut without the ability. something has gone wrong with him physically, mentally and development wise since then.
Dean Polo won the Yiooken Award in his seniors debut.

Ross is not good enough for senior footy. Slow, average skills and poor defensively. WTF does Hardwick keep persisting with him?

Bloke i work with. Ex AFL player. Father of a decent up and coming AFL player. Knows Ross real well. Son played with him for years. Seen a lot of his football.

He reckons we are totally playing him out of position. Reckons he's someone you just throw onto the ball and let him get around the ground from stoppage to stoppage. Forget trimming him down, playing him on a hbf or wing. Not his thing. Bulk him back up and let him do his thing in traffic and not so much of the running off hbf or the wing and one on one contests in space. Says he's a pure on baller.

There is a lot of debate around Ross and where to play him.

It seems clear that a running position such as HBF or wing is not working.

So, let's put him on the ball for the last few games since the season is over, and see what happens. There might be an issue if he has lost bulk he needs to play as an inside mid, if that is the case, try it this year in the seniors, if it doesn't work, he can bulk up over the pre-season and we try this in the VFL at the start of 2022.

Let's see, once and for all.

His best footy this year was 4q v blues, on ball won several clearances

The HBF is THE easiest position to play in a game of footy.

Inside mid is one of the hardest (along with Ruck and FP imo).

If you look unimpressive on a HBF,

you will almost certainly look considerably more unimpressive in the middle.

If your butcher is struggling to trim the fat off your lamb cutlets adequately,

you don't give him a scalpel and swing him into the neurosurgery ward.

Jesus.

what with this narrative?
The coaching staff are obviously morons. They’ve watched him play for 4 years and completely missed the obvious that he’s a bull inside mid. Even though we are crying out for one. How these clowns one 3 of the last 4 flags has me beat.

Mr Holier-than-thou wants to take pot shots at our triple premiership winning coaching staff, but can't remember the difference between "won" and "one".
Maybe they understand what he is, but given he's contracted for next year, maybe they're trying to develop another part of his game? I'm sure there's something neither you or I am aware of about his game and the feedback he's receiving behind this.
Mind you, these mindless idiots are the same ones that put Rioli and Stack in the backline. But maybe they're just damn lucky eh?

WTF are you talking about? Should I have added the sarcasm emoji?
So you’re arguing they are teaching Ross a new skill cos he’s already a gun at inside mid?
Stack started as a HBF, a star from his first game there.
Rioli moving there is an inspired move. But, HBF is the easiest position on the ground to look good. If Ross was any good at inside mid he’d be starting in the centre square every game.

Ross to slow off the mark & the way he played against Freo you would have thought he had gumboots on.

Playing the position he is meant to play has paid dividends today.
BOG for us and hopefully a sign of things to come.

Turns 21 next month and only in his 3rd year. Hasn’t deserved most of the hate he’s gotten around here this year. Look forward to seeing what he can produce next year.
