Jack Ross

Yeahhhhh... nah. Did some good things but lacks poise and strength on his feet when challenged.

Yes, good game but still a watch for me.
Could be self belief.
Fumbles. Uncertain decision making and ordinary disposals. Overthinking. Loses his feet from ground ball.

Confidence and certainty in his place in the team and ability to perform will fix all of the above.
The next 5 matches will be a good watch

Correct on all points.
Doesn’t appear to be one touch nor possess evasive ability.
If you’re not quick of body or mind in AFL, you’re usually an also ran.

If he gets to 50 games he will be one touch.
Needs belief/confidence.
But the lack of evasiveness is an issue.
I,m on the fence but hopeful.
The next month will tell a tale, Dashkam's hammy is the best thing for Rossy

Interesting how players are judged. I keep hearing that Ross is a bull and a mid. Well he had 4 contested possessions and no clearances Friday night. Not one centre clearance nor one stoppage clearance. I’m unsure as to how many centre bounces he attended? I’m sure he was at plenty of stoppages. He was good on Friday night, but that’s really judged in the context of what his output has been - average. At the least he contributed and earnt another game.

I'll go on record again,

saying JRoss is a plodding bush footballer.

every game he plays is lead in our saddlebag and

delaying the inevitable.

would have got his name on the locker in the 90's

I’d like to see him get some midfield time with Dusty out , thought he played well on Friday night , however I don’t see a future in the back half for him , lacks a yard and not an elite kick, midfield bull or bust imho, in saying that I don’t think he’s going to make the grade , like to see him get another gig at an AFL club

Worth a try, give him a chance and see how it goes.

DS
I keep going back to his first game against Port Adelaide where he ruck roved. Was outstanding that night & seemed to back his game intuition & just play on instinct. Since the injury in that same season, I’ve not seen it since until Friday night. The longer the game went, he just took it on.

I’d now say to him, we’ll give you the last five games in the middle on not on a wing & we want you to show us what you can do. Contested ball/clearances & hard running both ways is what we’ll judge you on.

I’m with Tigers2011. Was probably Ross’ best game since 2019. Maybe it’s taken that long to get the ankle and frame of mind right and adjust his game accordingly.

How many times has he been the medical sub this year? 5? This *smile* rule has negatively impacted his performances. Also I don’t believe the club has managed him that well by making him sub so many times and not playing to his strengths.

I really think it’s worth giving him an extended run as an inside mid for the rest of the season. The amount of injuries we have creates the opportunity. Let’s see what we’ve got and make the call at the end of the season.

And don’t underestimate the damage that last years disruption could cause to a young player trying to make their way back in following a significant injury.

If he was such an inside bull wouldn't that reveal itself at training? Or do none of the coaches see what his ardent supporters on here see? It's pretty pointed that despite half the midfield team missing he struggles to get a game.

Only Hardwick can answer why it is that he wants Ross of HB when its clear that we need another inside
mid but here's just a little reminder of an 18yo Jack Ross in action, a player some are so keen to condemn.

That’s our future inside mid right there

Remember Jack Graham was recruited as a inside mid. Doesn’t get enough time in the centre for my liking.

Quote below SA junior Manager:
Brenton Phillips likened to Graham to Hawthorn's Luke Hodge, saying he was a "really hard, inside, contested-ball winner who probably spreads a bit harder than Hodge

Watching that makes you wonder what's happened to him. Showed confidence, flair, zip, and played on instincts. Obviously has the talent and ability to be an AFL inside mid but for some reason it's not happening for him. Now he's hesitating, going to ground and second guessing himself. Is it physical or mental or both? When you see his early games in the guts you wonder why Dimma wants to play him elsewhere. Ross should sit down and watch this clip over and over until he can re connect with Jack Ross of 2019.

Ultimately this is what Ross is Ezy, agreed sadly.
