Ivan Maric

Zac Dawson was keeping him out of a ruck spot at Calder in his first year of 18's so thats why he was drafted a year later. I didnt think he was going to be anywhere near this good, all we thought was that he was a good tap ruckman, but his around the ground work has been even better. The big pack marks sre awsome to see.

I'd love to see Dawson go up against Ivan today. He would snap him like a twig.

I watched about 30 secs of the Freo/WC game last night while channel-hopping.

Dawson gathered the ball deep forward. Bruce said: “What can Dawson do here?”

Hurn tackled him and Dawson surrendered meekly. Bruce answered his own question: “Nothing.”

nathan brown was a great player for us before his injury. people forget how good he was.
Nathan Brown was the close to the best player in the competition just before he broke his leg.

If we had Nathan Brown in his prime playing for us right now, I have no doubt we would be sitting firmly entrenched in the top 4. He alone would have been the difference against the likes of WCE, Geelong and Essendon.

Yep. Short memories around here.

BT said he thinks Nic Nat, Cox, Jacobs and Bellchambers are all ahead of him for AA. :rofl
It was the way he said it that was annoying, dismissed Ivan's claim for possible AA contention straight away and seemed to indicate that it is silly to even have him in the conversation. Knob.

still hasn't got over missing the 1982 grand final?

Apart from Nathan Brown has there been anotehr recruit from within AFL rnaks to ahve such a dramatic input to the fortunes of our club?
McMahon.

well he certainly had a dramatic input in regards to use of the word 'squib' or 'dud' on PRE

For those who can't get to the games. You would be stunned to see how fast and hard he runs behind play. I was laughing 3 times yesterday as he literally burned off Hale and put 15m on him over a 100m sprint in order to get into defense to stop a Hawk forward thrust. I'm not kidding - it was like watching Cox or Mumford - pure powerful surging running.

Good point. And he gets from zero to flatour pretty quick for a big unit. And he holds top pace for a extended time.

I am still amazed at how smart a footballer he is. The handball to Nahas had to be quick, sharp and on the money. And those types of goals break the hear of the other mob.

Yep, I remember he was Brownlow favourite at the time.

He was the hottest player in the comp at the time, which is why his leg got broken. He was billed as being unstoppable, Daniher sent someone out to stop him.

I loved Browny, but that was the old Richmond, the one-star-high-priced-recruit-away-from-a-flag shortcut Richmond.

This is the new Richmond. The rock-solid foundations Richmond.

I don't think anyone has said anything against Nathan. I said if I had to choose out of him as he was for us or Ivan as he is now, given our situation at the moment, I'd choose Ivan. Last year we were often smashed in the midfield. This year it's very different. Far more competitive and creative. I credit a lot of that to having a good, tough, talented and versatile, ruckman. I reckon he's helped all of our other players all over the field. Fair enough if nobody else agrees with my thinking.

IMO big Ivan fills a greater need than Browny did at the time.
No doubt Nathan's is or was a better player, but Ivan is playing a more critical role.

I am with you on that one Rosie.

Ivan brings more players into the game. Browny was a fantastic player but more for what he could do as an individual not necessarily with the team. Supporters expected Browny to get onto a ball, weave some magic and kick goals.

Ivan is a different style of player but is precisely what the Tiges require. He provides grunt in the engine room and gives our ever improving midfield first use of the ball. Not only that, as a resting ruckman in the forward line he provides another big marking body and when moved down back plays the loose man to perfection.

The Mullet is our man for the future

If he somehow continues this kind of mad form. B & F's, AA's, Brownlows, Norm Smiths await.

But nobody can maintain this kind of form can they?

Who knows. 9 games and he hasn't had an off game yet. All our other players have.

We still don't know if he's playing out of his skin or if this is the minimum we can expect from him.

Just saw the Maric effect on "On the Couch". Has been enormous.
Need Browne or Gus to step up and back him up. Or we recruit another in 2013.

The highlight for me at the game was the shepherd on Roughead for Newman as he was running in for a shot (point) in the second.

The big mullet was coming at them both like a train and demolished Roughead just before he caught Newman, leaving him to run on.
It was awesome and something I am not used to seeing from us.

The funny thing is looking at the replay, how good it was isn't captured at all, you have no idea how far and fast he ran, it looks like nothing.

The big mullet is up for th cgu unsung hero this week, time for pre power to get another tiger over the line methinks.

If Vickery had half the form he had last year,

him and Maric would be a huge rucking pair.
