Comments not so much directed at you but, honestly, I have had this discussion with about 20 others posters on PRE, it's like Groundhog Day. Not interested in re-hashing it any more. You must have missed it all; like on Hammer's thread.
I never have claimed that, or made out that H is any sort of champion whatsoever, so cut the 'derogatory' hyperbole yourself. Same with your next two sentences exactly.
The view I responded to of yours was total supposition because H did not play against Gawn, so cannot be on 'hist. evidence.' My only claim is that he was our best option in 2016 and performed far better than most of his knockers care to admit, like you. You virtually concede this but try to walk around it with further irrelevant, retrospective claims about Maric pre-2016.
I cited the Jacobs match-up as merely one example which disproves your claims in the post referred to. Did you notice the 'et al'? Not going to troll through match stats this year for other examples because I have done it several times before, plus these records may be taken down AFL site now, not sure. Look at the Hampson thread.
As for 'There is no way Hampson is an AFL quality ruckman in the mould that is required in today's game,' given he just played 20 AFL games for the 2016 season, you are again factually wrong.

There is a wide distinction between facts and opinions. So either we see how H would really perform against Gawn in '17, or Nankervis, a ruck much in the Maric mould. Will be interesting to see how they each go if it happens.
Glad you're not going to rehash it again....

Getting back to Maric and off iron hands for a second. Anyone know how his long term injuries are holding up?

More than once in the VFL season Ivan made it clear that he was perfectly sound. Jumping. Not so much running. But his heart wasn't in it.

OR, look for an argument by asserting sweeping generalisations as if gospel truth, then when somehow disputes them ... run for cover with a pointless attempt at a one-liner. Weak as.

Damn, You've got me pegged....... :p

Hardwick's the coach folks so just suck it up. You may not like him but he is the coach. Things may not appear to be meeting your lofty expectations but he is the coach. Many things drive a club and I dont believe that we are such a disaster. As much as everyone wants to flog him the reality is that he is simply just one of the 17 COACHES THAT DID NOT WIN THE GRAND FINAL and as of Round 1 2017 it's all bets off as all teams have another crack

From the intraclub match report...

"With Shaun Hampson consigned to running the boundary on Saturday and erstwhile main ruckman Ivan Magic transitioning to coaching, the job would appear Nankervis' to lose and he looked sharp in the centre and used his mobility to get to contests and make an impact around the ground."

Back in the day he may have been.

Was that written by RFC?

Would have thought given its his last year that he would want to play as much as possible, and by most reports he was the better player and ruck man, i wouldn't want to be telling him he's in the 2s if thats the case, with his crazy eyes and all... haha

The report is actually attributed to Ashley Brown, AFL Media.

It's quite entertaining to see what people read into a 50m intra-club hit-out.

Just out of interest though, does anyone know what's wrong with Hampson? Can't recall I noticed any injury report on him.

It's a simple, straight question re his current state of fitness. Not an invitation for another of your pompous preachings on how you know all there is to know about ruck-work.

BTW, noticed on FW the other day, which team won the least HOs in 2016? I know it's not everything, it's effective clearances that really can be decisive, but it kind of illustrates the troubles of a team without a proper, big ruck.

PS - How's Liam coming along? Gonna take the world by storm in '17?

Maybe but Hardwick was given a Mercedes (as a team) and after he had finished tinkering with it last season turned it into a Trabant.

I reckon he was working with a Mitsubishi Triton.

Best ute i ever owned, but it had some shortcomings.

So Evarn is essentially our ruck-coach right?

Why not delist, appoint him as ruckcoach, and rookie a ruckman? Have I missed something? IS he insurance insurance?

Yes, you missed that clearly Eevan very much wanted to keep playing. Whether he is kidding himself or not. So delisting him would have meant a rapid exit to the Filth who were very interested in providing the very same arrangement we have retained him on. [And as Pies kept Ben Hudson listed in previous years]

If you would have been happier with that, then brilliant strategy. Soldo is effectively a rookie ruckman - three capable, experienced and mature rucks (Hampson, Nankervis and Maric) with Griffiths as KPF and back-up, is a sound group.

For the sake of a really successful 2017 season I am hoping Maric plays most of his footy in the VFL side.
Great fella, excellent club man and good mentor that Maric is, I do believe he would struggle to be a consistent let alone dominant force at the elite level. Will have an impact at times, but hopefully leads and coaches by strong example in the reserves.
