Ivan Maric

He was more talking about trading for mature rucks I think.

Who else was available? Callum Sinclair, Lobbe?
What would we have to trade for either of them. I believe Lobbe wasn't amenable to be traded at the time. Granted Sinclair is younger but would he be much of an upgrade?
No many others in the frame this year. Maybe a pitch for Lobbe this year, hopefully the squeeze will be put on for a possie with Ports depth, with maybe Ryder preferred.

I'm guessing he's referring to guys like Zac Smith and Dan Currie who were both traded this year. Even Giles, who was pretty good for GWS.
Geez, Giles struggled badly to get a game at Essendrugs when their rucks were getting smashed n they gave him away in a big hurry. How the hell Currie rates a mention as anything beyond a hail mary prospect is beyond belief. Zac Smith might be worth the investment if he's over his earlier injury issues, might well be a cheap get for Geelong. Might also fade into obscurity also.

Not that I'd tell him personally but Ivan is the main player on our list that I have concerns about this year with regards to a genuine tilt at that ever elusive flag.
Agree TOO.

Not sure how many miles this old war horse has left in him.

What's more concerning to me, is that we don't seem to have a genuine, long term replacement.

Hampson will battle but take us nowhere.

Griffiths/Vickery only part time at best.

Chol could be v.good but way down the one, if ever.

I guess we're punting on the trade having a big 'big fish'.

Gunna be interesting to see what the big Eevan has left in the tank this year. He's never going to be able to beat the likes of Goldstein, Nicnat or Sandi. But he must get back to the competitive beast who halved contests against the best n mongreled the lesser ruckmen.
Ivvy was a bit flat in the aggressive bustle n shove in traffic most of last year n I reckon he knows it n will get back into that mode for this year. It's not just a matter of winning ruck contests, sometimes a nil all draw is sufficient. A lot of the time it's the secondary work around the contest, bullocking a path for our onballers to get first sniff at the ball n blocking the opposition mids from getting access or space to work through.

I wonder if we'll go back to playing two rucks now that the sub has died. Somehow I doubt it.

Ivvy still remains a concern after todays scratch match for mine. Chol, Soldo and Griffith all matched him at the centre bounces. This could be seen as a positive but I'm not so sure. We could get beaten up. Then again it was only a intraclub and Ivvy may have been holding some back. Hmm.
Hampson was running laps as he recovers from his ankles but he was moving well at least and was being put through the ringer by the trainers. Doesn't look that far away from resuming full training.

Richmond has played three finals games since the acquisition of Ivan Maric. In one of those games he was bad. In the others he was pathetic.

The coach has hitched his wagon to this star.

Was he that bad in the Carlton one ? - I have memories of him trying to single handily wrest momentum back of Carlton

I think we now have a Maric past his prime so not disagreeing it is a problem now. (also - re watched the replay of the Hawks win last year and thought he was one of our better players in that game)

Is that a positive or a negative that Hampson is near resuming full training.

There's only 2 certainties with Hampy: he's either injured or stinking it up.

I agree with that, yott. Some people here are of the opinion that Ivan should be in an iron lung and has never been much good after his first season with us.

I spat coffee all over my keyboard. If only this were a joke.

He kicked a couple of beaut goals but Warnock killed him in ruck contests. Put in a platter for Judd & co. and that's how they tore us up. Gibbs had 12 clearances!

Many may disagree , however as long as Maric is fit ,IMHO he will beat the bottom half rucks, compete with the middle tear an be beaten by the top shelf Rucks, for me when his up against the Natanuis, Jacobs an Goldstiens our mids just have to be smarter and set up a bit more defensive to attempt to not allow the easy clearance
