All sorts of things, none of which you would be aware of.

Why are you still here if you are unwilling to take responsibility for what happened before 1968? You, and I, were only born here because of Aboriginal dispossession, if we want to take the benefit we must accept responsibility.

How can I accept responsibility for the actions of persons past who I have no connection with whatsoever ?. Also what about present day immigrants from the Mid East who have settled in Australia in the last four or five years because of Islamic terrorists forcing them out of their natural habitat. Do they have to take responsibility even when they can hardly understand the English language.

l am not responsible for what happened before l was placed on this earth.
l am here because l was born here.
l believe the law says l can't be evicted from this country, so l will enjoy it here as long as l choose to stay here.

who said you were going to be evicted from this country?

i dont think arguing people should take responsibility for current living conditions faced by many Indigenous Australians is helpful in regards to the referendum, nor that they/we should feel guilt, or any emotion, for the living standards we enjoy.

To me the referendum should pass because Indigenous Australians face unique issues that contribute to the many problems they face, and these issues require a unique response guided by an insight that most of us, including those in government, will never have. The response also requires a consistency and long term planning that our current system of governance struggles to achieve.

Constitutional recognition is a symbolic statement acknowledging the long history Aboriginal Australians have to this land. It will not have any negative impact to anyone.

Well then, how can you accept residency here which is only possible on the basis of things which happened before you were born?

I'm not saying you really have to leave, what I am saying is that you cannot say that because the dispossession of Aborigines occurred before you were born, it is of no consequence to you when you benefit from it every day you live in this country.

You don’t need to show responsibility. Start with empathy and work from there.

This is the basis of the issue, very well put.

All the rest is noise

So you are voting yes?
LOL Sin Yes to No maybe ?. Might vote informal. Sit on the fence. If its a Yes accept it graciously like when Tigers lose by a point that Princess Park lot. If No the fallout will be worth watching.

Actually I think the Yea might just get over the line due to the Donkey vote. Plenty of people who do not give a rats about it will vote Donkey so it is off the agenda. Buried so they can just get on with their lives peacefully.

They are recognised in Australia's Constituition as you & I are because they are on Australia's Electoral Roll. I do think the Indigenous Australians who allowed Cook then First Fleet made a big big mistake in not repelling the landing. Then this lot would not be the problem for todays Australians but take your pick Spanish, Dutch, German , Portuguese ,Chinese , Japanese , Chinese, Russian or maybe Kim Jong-Un
Are you trying to say that the British were the least worst invaders?

I'm not sure that when your culture is being wiped out through genocide, displacement and biological warfare, you'd sit back and say 'Oh well. At least it's not the Koreans giving me small pox."

I think we can acknowledge suffering and disempowerment without needing to feel guilty.

It's difficult to seperate our actions from our egos.
