Golf

Yep, apart from him barracking for the Pies.
Yeh, he's actually become a much more humble guy after his cancer challenges. His knowledge on golf is first class and he doesn't carry on like a pork chop.

And what he has gone through over the last 5 years has been amazingly difficult.

Well done Niemann - stood up and played great shots when the heat was on . Hoshino too; a tough, professional Japanese golfer. So consistent.

Whereas really disappointing to see all the Aussies collapse in their own national open when the pressure came on, even though the tournament was there for the taking: Davis, Smith, Leishman, Scott, Herbert and MWL. Add Minjee in the women's . What was she smiling and waving to the crowd for instead of actually not concentrating on playing the shots necessary to win over the last few holes? Allowing the SA girll to basically win with just steady pars, no birdies and a bogey I think. Non-event!

All flopped. And hated the coverage. Combining the mens' and womens' opens event into one is a complete dud IMO.

Agree. Terrible way to treat both the mens and womens opens playing them together. 2/10 overall.

Apparently Golf Australia hates it too, but the sponsors like it and do it in other events around the world that they sponsor.
Maybe it's better being there? The whole thing feels like you jump around too much, one minute following the leading men, then the leading women....you simply didn't see enough of the action in either mens or womens to build the proper tension etc.

Although I have been to the golf a fair few times, and other than watching players on the range I generally find it a frustrating experience trying to get good views of the action. Easier to watch on TV.

Yes, in many ways golf is made for TV with the mobile camera crews able to follow the action almost anywhere at ground level along with the stationary high cameras set up for the long views/shots, especially the aerials. Although the long camera teams seemed to struggle to find and follow the ball in flight, especially in the Qld PGA. They were pretty ordinary IMO.

?But fully agree with your initial comment on the coverage. Why try to have 3 events in one? It just demeans each one, especially the mens/womens with huge starting fields.
I was really only interested in the men, but your focus and interest was lost continually switching back and forward to Buhai eking out another safe par way ahead of the rest. They missed so much and often had to play catch-up with highlight replays of someone they had ignored going on a sudden run. They only caught up with the eventual winner quite late in the piece as we did not see heaps of his round in real-time.

On Kayo, missed a heap of vital shots because they just come back to real-time after lengthy ad breaks. You just see a player in heaps of trouble but no idea how they got there e.g. never saw Scott's disastrous drive into the netting. Three events, thrice the missed play. It's crappy.

The Snuffler goes bananas in the Bahamas. (See how I did that ? Brilliant. Heh heh heh….)

Woodsie looked sore and heavy. And tired. Sweated that much he looked like he’d blown his radiator. Maybe put the weights away Woodsie, bit more aerobic work, strip 4 or 5 kegs, and see how that goes.

Hes starting to look like a caricature. He was talking how hes happy cause he can lift heavy again.

Agree he would be better off losing some lbs

Yeah.

When they started to interview him 10 mins after he’d finished, he didn’t realise he was on camera and was puffing and blowing like he’d run a sub 50 400m. He was totally drenched in sweat from whoa to go. Like he was in a shower. It was 29 degrees but gee that’s not overwhelming especially on the coast. His face looked like a puffer fish.

He might be huge up top but I don’t reckon he’s genuinely fit at the moment. The commentators were amazed at how bulked he was too. They showed some footage of him last year and I reckon he’s put on 4-5 kg easy. All of it upper half. Maybe strip it back and get some weight off those bad knees and ankle.

Noticed he was wearing a heavy brace on his right leg too. Looked like his tibia and not his ankle.

In horse racing terms, fitter for the run.

But is he really? Haven't watched it but doesn't sound like it. It's ironic that while Tiger has bulked up again, BDC has actually trimmed down. Seemed to realise all that beef wasn't doing a whole lot more for him

As I mentioned a while ago, common sense has finally prevailed where the rollback of the golf ball is concerned. The rollback will apply to all golfers, not just professionals. Amen. Ridiculous to try and separate pros and amateurs.

So Rahm is off to LIV for $300m. Wonder what that means in the context of the PGA Tour and LIV working out a deal with each other to have a consolidated tour ?

Yer, because they can saturate it with 2/3 times more advertising. It's crap.

Well the rumour-mill seldom seems wrong re LIV golfers defecting, but over last couple of years, Rambho seemed one of the least likely. As for $300m, some sources are claiming more like double that.
I wonder what changed his mind/loyalty/integrity as far as his prior statements? ;)

Huge blow for the established PGA & DP tours. Classic case of being reactive instead of proactive years back. This makes a significant compromise of sorts very likely IMO. Whatever you think of LIV, and I am not a fan at all, their players not getting any world rankings points from that body with the big acronym, is just nonsense e.g just average performances out over 3 rounds instead of 4 and deduct whatever- it's just simple math.

In new developments, seems like the Tour have been approached by a number of large sports groups eg FSG and investment bankers wanting to partner with the Tour and usurp LIV.

Interesting news.

Reckon his defection says more about the PGA tour and it’s running compared to the LIV tour.

Monahan better get his act together quick smart.

Also looking forward to Rory’s reaction. Should be popcorn worthy.

Rory has flipped. Ryder Cup more important. Bit of a change of heart when your most important player jumps ship.

And that is why Rory McIlroy is calling for change.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, he said: “Jon is going to be in Bethpage [New York] in 2025.
“Because of this decision, the European tour is going to have to rewrite the rules for Ryder Cup eligibility.
“There’s absolutely no question about that – I certainly want Jon Rahm on the next Ryder Cup team.”
He added: “I’m going to miss competing against him week in, week out. He has got so much talent, he’s so tenacious and he’s a great team-mate in the Ryder Cup.
“The thing that I’ve realised is that you can’t judge someone for making a decision that they feel is the best thing for them.
“Is it disappointing to me? Yes, but the landscape of golf changed on June 6th, when the framework agreement was announced, and I think because of that it made the jump from the PGA Tour to LIV a little bit easier for guys.”

FYI. I wonder who if true? I seriously doubt it would be MWL although LIV would know how marketable he is now and could become a genuine world superstar with huge Asian appeal as well as PGA/DP; US and Euro appeal. Think he's super-keen to compete at the highest level now he has just secured his PGA card.
Possibly Herbie? Has he changed his mind following prior statements with the promise if a huge pay-packet with easier competition than the big tours? Or could Scott have relented, given he must be starting to realise his winning days are probably past, so why not take a huge retirement deal. Or Jason D ... with 5 kids now?

Not that any of them are short of a $ as it is. But, might make sense for Herbie, especially as Jed Morgan didn't make the grade for Smith's Aussie team and got cut, trying to re-qualify. There's a vacancy.
