Golf

After your JT prediction I’m gunna back him to win from here. Gotta be a moral.
I’m blaming Stoner Homa for JT’s round. On Wednesday he played a 9 hole practice round with him and said that if he’d have played a full 18, he’d have shot 61.

Stoner is cursing everyone in order to win. Get on Stoner.

Haha this just reminded me of a Masters moment I had completely forgotten about.

I‘m following Stoner and Will Zalatoris around during their Tues practice round. They are practicing chipping and putting on the 14th green, after a while I decide to head to the 15th tee to grab a prime spot to watch em tee off.

Zalatoris‘s caddy wanders over, I’m standing right beside him beside the markers. 2 mins later Will wanders over but no sign of big Maxy.

Where’s Max? the caddy asks

Word for word his reply was

”F***ing pussy says he is tired, doesn’t want to practice anymore. Can you believe that? We are at the freaking Masters ffs. Unbelievable”

He eyeballs me, realising he maybe shouldn’t have said that, at least not that loud.

I smiled, shook my head and said “Couldn’t agree more”

They should know that being a stoner is very tiring.

Herbie, $17 to finish top 10. If he can drive it ok, I reckon he's a sneaky chance. He'll be suited as the greens quicken up.
I thought he might go ok before the start. Wide fairways, good short game.

He can be a bit inconsistent though.

Played Bright golf club the other day, such an underrated course I’d have it close to top 10 in Victoria, if your heading up to the snow , do yourself a favour

Do we really need the on course reporters anymore “ you down there Bobby Ray” so often they make the wrong call and with trackman we know where the balls going , plus they just dribble on

Bit disappointed in this course. But love it at the same time.

Just don’t expect to see scores like we saw on day 1 in a US Open. I think the bunkers, rough and fescue are tough enough, but big wide fairways make them somewhat redundant to the pro’s In benign conditions.

Hopefully it bares its teeth from round 2 onwards.

On another note how good is west coast golf! Playing through to lunchtime here is awesome.
Bit the same re the course Mopsy, has a bit of Moonah links feel to me

A lot of bad games again today. Max Homa stuffed up. No-one picked Rory on their list. Drof needs to speak to Justin Thomas....

She's on baby ! Possibilities and permutations galore.

For the US Open itself, some of the biggest big-name flops that I can remember in a major in a long time. Justin Thomas shoots 81 ? WTF ? Max Homa - rubbish 2nd round. Justin Rose...WTF was that 1st round ? Jason Day 76 in the 2nd round. No good. Cameron Davis...ok he's not a big name but 79 today ? Spieth and Bradley rubbish as well.

Some big, gutsy comebacks though. The WUG, Fleetwood, Rory's second nine today, Dustin Johnson's fightback.

And we have 2 Australians right up to their neck in it as well with solid rounds. Min Woo at -6 and Smith at -4. Course suits them. Wide fairways. Quick undulating greens and heavy bunkering. Sandbelt-ish.

This thing could be won by anyone.

Agree with the course. It's sort of good, but the fairways are too wide for a US Open and a lot of the long holes are extremely downhill which together with benign conditions, is making it too easy for a US Open. That's why I thought we'd get a double digits under par winner. Anyway, it sort of bit back a bit today so maybe the 3rd and 4th rounds will toughen things up.

For the 2023 PRE US Open, the scoring lead to massive swings lead by angle ankle who shot a staggering -15 to storm to the lead over a flapping TigerForce who could only manage -1 after a massive -16 1st round. 9 shot lead ! Second best score of the day was Burnside with a -11, aided by everyone's favourite cheat, Harris English. Mopsy shot a -8 and after that, everyone struggled with around par or beyond. ***** Justin Thomas !!!!

The leader board at the halfway mark.

I thought it was a windy day in LA or something. Are you still including the ones missing +2 cut?

An awesome effort from DJ, I was watching live when he shot 8 on the second.

I love the course, but agree the fairways are too wide.

Shane Bacon the commentator is a knob spanker.

So is that Luke Elvey or whatever his name is. The Australian. Doesn’t shut up.

And can Morgan Pressell stop saying “ he got stuck under that” on every bad shot ? Ffs.

Yeah all Bacon and Elvey do is have p!ssing competitions, non stop.

What about spoof’s boy Brian Harman. Very funny. Called himself a “fck dumbass” and then dropped the f bomb several more times. Got it back together and went to -5 before dropping 3 shots on the last 3 holes.

Reckon the courtesy ride back to the hotel would have been interesting.
