Interesting 1st round in the 2023 PRE US Open. Lot of big name on-course players failed badly on a course that wasn't as tough as they made it out to be. (Unfortunately, a number of them were in my ***** team...geeeez !)

Fowler goes berserk. Can't believe nobody picked Schauffele. Spoof's boy Harman comes through for him. Big names Spieth, Thomas, Hatton, Fleetwood and Rose all have bad days and get blown away by a number of other players.

Some astute low value and amateur picks e.g. Bennett by tigerman and Morales by a couple of other punters.

Anyway, TigerForce jumps out to a solid 1st round lead. angle ankle is 5 shots back and then a bunched up field for the next 7 spots before the laggards start to kick in. Mopsy and Mr Burnside benefit with Varner's no-start and receiving Harris English as a substitute. Harris shoots -3.

Reckon this US Open is gonna move around a bit on the leader board a fair bit the next 3 days. Scheffler looks ominous. Pretty certain this'll be a double digits under par score that wins.

Check your scorecards.

Gotta get 6 guys through the cut. No one a certainty to do that. Cut line might be 2 over? Perhaps 3 if conditions a little harder and faster tomorrow?

Koepka might represent huge value to win, he was asleep for most of his first round. Obviously tough with a 9 shot deficit but he could fire up tomorrow. Can't see him being that bad again.

Sheffler's flakey putting will cost him. 3 putted the 18th from about 20ft straight up the hill.

Heh heh....hand it over now Drof.

Rahm did well to grind out a -1. He was very sketchy to begin with.

Geez. I just knew Rose was gonna struggle right from his very first shot off the 10th. 3 wood that went way left. The look on his face, the slump. Looked like he was fighting his swing before he stepped on the tee and knew what he was in for.

If the jet ski salesman was to win the US Open (he won’t) it’d be a remarkable bounce back in his career.

Bit disappointed in this course. But love it at the same time.

Just don’t expect to see scores like we saw on day 1 in a US Open. I think the bunkers, rough and fescue are tough enough, but big wide fairways make them somewhat redundant to the pro’s In benign conditions.

Hopefully it bares its teeth from round 2 onwards.

On another note how good is west coast golf! Playing through to lunchtime here is awesome.
