Thanks, that might have to wait for kids school to cease unfortunately.
Is there any maintenance involved?
My mate didn't get the courses package and he mentioned Augusta is not really "available"...
Do you use the putting function much?
No maintenance, apart from you'd inevitably have to replace the hitting mat at some point. I rotate mine and try and hit off different spots to keep it wearing too much.
Augusta appears and disappears under fake names, you have to scour online forums to find clues as to what name it is under. I reckon I played it and St Andrews 50 times each in the first month and haven't touched them since. Never been but for me Augusta is more about the vibe than the actual course so the simulator doesn't really do it justice.
I've played lots of courses I have played for real though and they all stack up really well.
Putting is definitely the worst part because it is so hard to simulate green speeds etc. I actually putt left handed on the courses, because I don't want to create bad habits, but in practice mode you can get good data about club face alignment and face and path tracking.
I should have mentioned in the cost that the hardest part is having a space for it because you obviously need the high ceiling. If you have a shed it's good but metal stuffs up some of the trackers so it still needs to be plastered out.
I ended up having a mini reno done, extended a room and had the ceiling lifted into the roof cavity with a bulkhead, so I just have a space directly above with a cut out ceiling. That was $$$$$ to do, but the screen doubles as a TV which is good for a man cave, I've added a bar and am very content.
Be warned though, I play golf with a group of 8 blokes every Sunday over the summer and anytime the weather has been hot or looking like rain we seemed to be ending up here instead of a course, which is costing me a fortune in BBQs and beer!
