Enjoy.

And remember, “ one night in Bangkok “..................."makes a hard man humble";)

Played Gunnamatta the other day, geez it is easy compared to the other 2 courses at the Nash. The greens a large so a challenge to avoid 3 putting but its quite short and an easy driving course. Not sure I'd want to play it very often if I was a mamber there.

Funny you say that MDJ , I play the old 16 times , Moonah 3 and Gunamatta once out of every 20 rounds approximately, I was saying that to a couple of long time members the other day and they said “ you play Gunamatta too much “ I don’t mind it , but dosent compare to the others , there’s no flow in the course , it Criss crosses and imho 2 and 16 are the only true memorable holes , unlike the old that has 18 memorable ones .

I'll be a member there in about 5 years time I reckon once the kids are older and reckon my course split would be about the same.

The old is just a completely enjoyable experience and walk. It's got risk and reward, amazing views, severe penalties, fantastic green complexes.....and love a couple of dimmies and an ice cold peroni after the game.

Played PK North today for the third time in about 3 years and I think I've finally got the speed of the greens, which are like lightning. Had a ripper day with the putter...shame that was only because the long game was awful and i scrambled all day to scratch put 30 points. If you hit some of that rough it's not pretty. But I'd still say it's the best course I've played on in Victoria.

Having been a member there for a lot of years before moving to a sandbelt club closer to the city, I know both PK courses like the back of my hand.

Both courses are ok. Not overly special I don’t think and certainly nowhere near the early rankings that some golf magazines had them when the courses first opened up. (Noticeably both courses have now fallen in the rankings quite considerably.) Each course has some cracking holes and then a few bland-average ones eg on the North course I reckon 4, 9, 12 and 15 and maybe 16, are all pretty average holes.

The green and bunkering complexes are pretty good. And you are right, if you miss the fairway down there you are pretty much cactus. Brutal in some ferny spots.

The greens are always excellent. They spent millions on turf and green assessment and construction. The Pure Distinction grass on the greens is state of the art.

Neither course is overly long meaning that they can be taken apart on a still day if you’re hitting it ok. When it’s windy and they have the greens playing fast, well that’s a different story.

Lot of money has been spent at PK. And I mean a LOT. Grumblings about the sustainability of it all already. Will be interesting to observe.

I do recall your early comments on it being somewhat overrated, and to be fair I haven't played many of the best courses in the state to compare it to, only really played Royal Melb and we only got 6 holes in since that day had some annoyingly persistent thunderstorms and lightning.

It certainly does look expensive to maintain. I guess that's why it's a 20k joining fee!

Would be interesting to know what their subs are right now. The whole premise of merging both Kingswood and Peninsula and using the $90m from the Kingswood land sale was to create a huge 'future fund' and minimise subs whilst enabling capital expenditure.

They were promoting a $25m future fund to members as part of the proposal but my understanding is that due to massive over spending, that fund is now only about $6m - which has a lot of people really pissed off and concerned....ergo the whole sustainability of it all.

Go play Victoria GC if you get the opportunity. Was there about 12 months ago and quite frankly, of the hundreds and hundreds of courses I've played all over the world over decades, that might be THE best conditioned and pristine course I've ever seen - and I've been on some good ones ! Really good.

It’s a much better course playing off the blacks.
The PGA tournament event on the Gunnamatta uncovered some surprising scoring stats. Not as easy to score as it looks.

Yeh, we played off blues and a theres a lot of short par 4's where you could hit driver without much risk.

Stayed overnight on-site and played both courses.
The North course is spectacular in presentation. They’ve done a magnificent job with it

Just watched playing a round with Glenn Maxwell as a guest. Can see why he isn’t a popular teammate. Comes across as a bit of a knob.
