Golf

Great watching them play in this wind. There is an element of luck with gusts etc but it’s fun watching them challenged.

27 balls in water at 17 so far after only 4 on first day I think. They may end up with 50 in there. They showed a great graphic of the wind speed at different heights due to the grandstands etc. players hitting it high are being punished. 5mph wind at tee level but 30mph up over grandstand.

Im not familiar with the young fella , however Ben Eccles was at my course the other day +6.1 wowee, not sure how many lower then that getting around

Branded Chamblee is talking utter *smile* , what a flog

I missed the action this morning, will watch it later. But I did hear what he had to say.

Make golf fair? He has lost the plot. Conditions have been changing during the course of a day’s play since the sport was invented.

I really couldn’t make sense of the point he was trying to make, especially in relation to the 17th.

I liked Kisner's comment, I assume it was tongue in cheek.

The forecast calls for less wind Sunday but players will face cold temperatures, especially in the morning. Temperatures are expected to drop into the 30s overnight and not even reach 60 degrees during the day. It’s expected to be 41 when the second round resumes at 8:15 a.m. Sunday. The wind is expected to blow about 10-15 mph, which is less than the 35-mph gusts players faced Saturday, but a cold, windy evening also will give the course a chance to dry out and firm up after receiving nearly 5 inches of rain this week.

“I hope it blows like this in the morning and they freeze their butts off,” Kisner said, “since they’ve been sitting at home all day watching us in the carnage.”

It was a good discussion. I disagree with Chamblee but understand his point. He was arguing that it’s too much emphasis on luck not skill. He argued players hit good shots with right flight and club and still got punished. Not sure on that, he said Sheffler hit a good shot. What I saw was a slight pull when he was trying to hit a punch. He went slightly long and left, as you do when you hit a pull, and Morikawa played a poor shot not a good one.
Paul McGinley was pretty much on the money in my opinion.
But was a good discussion.

Let’s face it. It’s a combo of real bad conditions, many players not adapting and to be honest, a bit of a tricked up gimmicky course with acres and acres of artificial, man made water hazards as well. (The latter is one reason why the Players will never be a 5th major.)

I thought Chamblee and McGinley both made good points.

Watching live now. Looks cold (beanies) but no rain. Quite sunny actually. Watching the Cameron Smith featured group. He’s got a beanie, hoodie and a pair of massive hand warmers going. Toughen up ….soft Queenslander.

Edit: he’s got a **** heating pack wrapped around his guts as well !!!

I don’t by the luck excuse , yep luck has a huge bearing , however there is plenty of grass to land the ball on , especially considering it’s only 130 yards , the fact they were all coming up short shows poor shot execution or lack of ability to hit a low ball , it wasn’t like anyone was flying the green because the wind stopped Plenty hit the green . Chamblee is a pompous flog who just tried to talk over Mcginity ….. imho

Yeh, McGinley loved it though, he more than held his own. Can see why he was Captain of the Ryder cup, he's no shrinking violet. Like listening to him talk about the game.

I don't mind Chamblee, he is passionate about golf, and he doesn't make it about him. He loves talking about the players and the game. He's interesting to listen to IMO.
