Golf

DJ just had 4 bunker shots on 10, one he had to tap the ball into a better position in the bunker. That was after he putted twice from off the green on 5.

My man Scottie is hot to trot.

Geez you love Hot Shoe. Love ‘im !

Riviera reminds me of my club so much. Same Italian Art Deco style clubhouse, same quick bent/poa greens and style of bunkering (our greens are quicker though), same sort of diabolical swales and drop offs. Our 10th is a short par 4 that plays really difficult like Riviera’s 10th does. You can see the clubhouse from every hole like Riviera too.

Thankfully we don’t have kikuyu though !

Faldo doesn’t like kikuyu either, he was rabbiting on about it all the time.

Did you read the article about $cheffler and his new putter, he got it last week? Cantlay struggled with the flat stick again.

Kikuyu is actually a weed. Terrible stuff.

Yeah I’ve got a couple of Newports. Tend to think changing putters only lasts so long. It’s the stroke that counts ultimately.

To that end Cantlay is quite unusual. He takes a very long back swing with the putter and almost decelerates coming through with a very soft stroke. I’ve seen him go lights out with it and then miss two footers. Compare him to Rham who has a real short, “tap” sort of stroke.

The ole putting. Different strokes for different folks !

I see Adam Scott is going well with his new putter too, rounds of 68 & 65. Looking forward to see who puts the better out of $cheffler and Spieth in todays round.

Spewing I didn’t put him in my top 30 multi. Tipped him out in favour of Fitzpatrick. Geeeeeez….

Noticed the 20/20 at the G had SFA crowd , yet these small golfing events going on around Vic atm are getting good numbers and drawing plenty of interest . Is Golf overtaking Cricket in Australia?

Yes. As are other sports. Cricket is in big trouble all over the world.

A fair effort by Hannah, she's had a profitable couple of weeks.

Perth golfer Hannah Green has made history by becoming the first woman to win a mixed-gender professional tournament, after claiming a dominant victory in the Players Series Murray River event on Sunday.

In a tournament that saw some of Australia’s best male and female golfers competing in the same field, Green began the day alongside three men in a share of the lead, but pulled away on the back nine to win by four shots.

It is the first win by a female golfer in a full 72-hole mixed tournament on any major tour in the world. Female golfers have previously won one and two-round tournaments but never a full, four-day tournament.
Green left 45 men in her wake at Cobram Barooga Golf Club in southern NSW, including former Australian Open champion Peter Lonard and a handful of ex-US PGA Tour players like Richard Green and Andre Stolz. Young guns like Australian PGA winner Jed Morgan and Victorian Open winner Dimi Papadatos were also playing, and Green’s bragging rights even extended to her boyfriend, Jarryd Felton, who finished 13 shots behind in T24th.

The Murray River tournament was part of the innovative Webex series, introduced on the Australian men’s and women’s tours last year, and sees female golfers use ‘scaled’ tee boxes - but otherwise go head-to-head with iron play, the short game and putting. Green’s accuracy, composure under pressure and brilliant touch across all four rounds was more than enough to account for the power advantage of her male rivals.

Niemann was always going to be hard to beat, but chipping in for eagle on 11 takes him to a 5 shot lead. Wheels will have to fall off to lose now.

Niemann, Hovland and Champ all played in the 2017 US Amateur, today they are in the last group at the Riviera. There's a lot of good young golfers around at the moment.

Finding Niemo !!! Just finished watching. Outstanding performance. Glad another non American wins on Tour.

Riviera is sensational. Love to go there and see that 10th hole myself, the slopes etc on those greens. Awesome looking course and field.

Now off to junky Florida. Geeez. What a let down.
