General Trade Discussion 2022

Buckley and boyd served out their first contract didnt they?

Horne-francis is setting a precedent after year 1 that completely undermines the draft,

Doesnt it?
No. You can't preach mental health and then hold a kid to ransom that is miserable. I think North have completely mishandled JHF.

So every kid who doesn’t want to go interstate should be allowed to stay in their own state because of mental health risks ?

It undermines the draft and free agency, that can't be denied.

Miserable and mental illness are different things. History, and our own lives are full of stories of terrible homesickness when you first strike out, to succeed you get over it and then thrive, all part of the process.

But I agree 100% North have been woeful. Dug their own grave, Brad Scott left them with a *smile* list and culture then the AFL stepped in and made it worse.

Tricky one for the AFL. It undermines their rules, but there are valid reasons for it in this case, but it then sets a precedent that has all sorts of flow on implications.

Tom Boyd set the precedent.

It is nigh impossible to differentiate between having depression and being depressed. So you have to take the word of the person. Similarly white people can't understand the hurt of implied racism.

I would like to think that if Richmond had pulled off the mega trade of picks with NM then JHF would have been more than content at Tigerland. So NM have to carry a large portion of blame. I think Nobel has set NM back a long way and history will judge him as Neeld-esque.

Just two weeks ago he said he was staying and Noble has gone anyway. With Port missing on Dunkley and Graham I think they have wooed him with a deal that overrode his loyalty to North.

If you saw his interview at the airport there was no way he intended to stay at North.

Norf should have taken the Crows offer , These idiots were way too hyped up in the JHF #1 Superstar i want to be #1 i want the $10k cash hype they didnt see the Bogan in him. They thought he was the next Dustin Martin

Rachelle + #5 + #14

He clearly said he would honour his contract at North, of course no extension but definitely said he would stay for 2023. I just don’t see how your angle about mental health has got anything to do with it.

From someone ITK, JHF is a sook, a poor trainer, has little respect from team mates as a result and North regret picking him.

That’s always an option - but (if they go home) they can play only local footy in their home state.
If and when their issues have been resolved they can return to the interstate club that drafted them.
AFL ain’t compulsory.

edit: clarification

Horne Francis may be a decent footballer and probable star, but........

something not quite right about him, so maybe Adelaide is the best place for him

Apparently the JHF pick was central to Noble’s criticism of the NM recruiting team. That they didn’t do their due diligence on him properly ie professionalism, character whatever. Maybe, with 13 years in Adelaide, contacts etc back there and having a finger on the pulse with recruiting matters, Noble knew there were issues with him when he was at Brisbane ?

Strange though. There was no real mention of any of that sort of stuff prior to him being drafted. Maybe JHF just hates being at Norf and it’s impacting him more broadly ?

Whatever, NM are gonna offload him, that’s for sure.

If he is as unprofessional as is now being touted then that doesn't say much for our recruiting team given we were prepared to sell the farm for him.

It's amazing how the Norf express of Clarko and JHF have completely derailed in two weeks. The club is back in freefall. A club being torn over pick 1 is a worrying sign.

The Clarko uncertainty is what tipped him over I reckon. Maybe it's the perfect excuse. But North have to take some responsibility for the year the kid had, staff who picked him leaving halfway through the year, coach sacked numerous other issues throughout the year.

They’re a basket case.

Possibly. The onus is on the clubs to be able to keep them. No one seems to have begrudged Tom Boyd's mental health issues. From when North bizarrely dropped JHF for their game in Adelaide, i believed JHF would depart.

Noble has to take some blame here. You can see how much of it plays out on the Stan doco. I suspect when Richmond and Adelaide offered big deals to pinch the #1 pick they thought they had better keep it.

The good news is Port finally found someone who wants their money. All they have to do is muzzle Kochie for a couple of weeks.
