Game Day vs St Kilda

Coulthard has been good at VFL level & is certainly AFL quality.

Cumberland is an enigma - huge talent (we don’t have many that have kicked 5 in an AFL game playing seconds) but looks like it’s all about himself. Hate the way he exaggerates injury.

Even last week at VFL level - hard to know if he was truly injured or not. Like the boy who cried wolf.

Very bad corkie could hardly walk

Get some class into the side Coulthard and Cumberland

The effort was pretty good again today. Unfortunately though you won't win many games of AFL footy with Kosi and Lefau as our key forwards. Maybe give Sampson a run or play Naismith and change Nank and him deep. There isn't much that can be done though till Lynch and Balta are back.

Shai, Dusty, Nank, Taranto and Tigga very all very good and Brown and Seth showed a bit.

You’re either genuinely contending or looking to develop your kids within a solid cultural and tactical framework.

We’re doing the latter whilst avoiding the dreaded mid table of the ladder.

Happy.

Lefau and Koschitzke started well but pretty soon after qr time Kosy slipped into old ways and put in very little.
Lefau kept trying. Laid two beautiful tackles late. Still learning.

Would have done better with Naismith.

With Ryan in the side sadly they would have run it out even easier.
You will never get to know that now. But I've actually come around to thinking Naismith would have been a far better selection, along with Kosi. We lost 2 tall forwards and only replaced with one. On that narrow, unfit for AFL ground, Naismith would have been a far tougher and scarier proposition for the likes of Wilkie, Battle and co. who knocked up with easy rebounds.

I didn't find out there was no VFL game until yesterday; had been thinking they had to keep Naismith for a VFL ruck. He has also shown he can find the goals at VFL level and would have been far tougher opposition for periods when Marshall was on the ball and Nank had to rest. We had very little forward with Kosi on ball.

Lefau is a work in progress but has nowhere near enough experience to combat such an well-drilled backline - the Aints' and Lyon's forte.

Stkilda are shiitt! That's what I got out of today.
They blow Owen's and Mini Stringer Philipou up as there future but I don't see anything special.
The ruckman is a doofus.
And Ross Lyon thinks his shitt dosent stink.
They aren't making the 8.
They will be with us

Only saw the end of the third quarter and the last quarter.

We looked pretty scrappy, not sure the narrow ground helped but lots of panicky disposals and lack of skills. We need to keep working on skills, clearly this has been a focus but it does take time.

I reckon the criticism of Lefau is a bit strong. He is not a key forward, but we ain't go no-one else. He will take time to learn the game but he does need some serious tutoring on how to create space for himself and where he needs to be.

Kosi, hmm, did not notice him at all. Would prefer to give Ryan a few games as I saw nothing from Kosi at all.

To my eyes the real clincher was an almost complete lack of a forward line, we had no targets (see above paragraph, was Kosi really out there?). But when you have no tall forwards, in our case a result of injuries, you don't bomb it in. I thought we were putting that behind us at least to some extent, but way too many kicks into our forward 50 which were either to an outnumber in their favour or to tall StKilda players and short Richmond players. You can't do that when we have Lynch and Balta out. The stats also bear this out, forward 50 efficiency at a paltry 31%.

StKilda in some ways not much better, their forward 50 efficiency was 41%, also well under the competition average. StKilda are a decent team and on paper should beat us by a larger margin, but they didn't impress today. Our defence held up but we need to get better taking the ball out of defence, especially when our forward line is out injured.

Hope McAuliffe is ok, he looked good for a few minutes when he was on, did not look out of place. Imagine what he can be like after a few pre-seasons,

Oh well, WCE next week, a must win game just for the sake of pride.

Disappointed, and frustrated, but with Bakes, Tom and Balta on top of all the other injuries, it was a bridge too far.

The Saints had 1 goal to half time The bridge wasn't too far. We simply dropped off our intensity and saints upped theirs.

The last qtr we upped it again and nearly snatched it but for bad kicking we probably win if we hit up short targets instead of hacking it forward time after time where Saints backs just marking it

100%

We are going to unearth some talent and at the same time build a new culture under a very impressive coach and at the end of the year have a great draft hand headlined by what is probably going to be a pick in the top 5 . Hopefully we can trade in for a 2nd first rounder as well.

Hacking it forward to Koschitzke.
We needed another target. Didn’t matter if we lost but to win we should have shifted Miller.
He at least can run, mark and kick and would have at least been a target !

Coulthard Cumbo Green for starters
Personally I agree but you couldn't drop Mansell after his previous 2 games - 3 goals, 5 goal assists, 15 score involvements. Coulthard's come back from injury and I don't think has kicked a goal this year yet. Green has kicked 0.5 per game and looks like he may need more time. Cumbo I'm sure has checked out and will look elsewhere next year, averaging only 1 goal a game in a side that is doing well. I'm so glad we've found Campbell, lots of polished and gaining lots of experience.

Factor in a bunch of injuries to senior players and being in every single game for large chunks, it's very pleasing. We've been a lot better than I thought we would be to date.

If we are undersized we need to go full Midget Attack and get speed speed speed on the park.
Very little space for speed and movement on that racing track of a ground AFL sent us to. Their marking/spoiling/running defenders able to make the ground to most contests.

Struggled to hit a target after half time.
Don’t get the idea of hand balling to someone under pressure. Kicking the ball
