We had our foot on their throats and every time they were ready to flatline we brought them back to life with an undisciplined free kick or a turn over. We lost it tonight.

And I am not buying into the theory we can just flick a switch and win it from here. We are playing no where near the levels of 19 & 20.

I think we need to do a few things to reboot (and it may not be our year this year):
1. Decide on the structure - clearly that’s now to be two tall forwards (Lynch & Jack) & two rucks (Nank & CCJ). For the most part we’ll have three key talls up forward - suits the way the game is now played, allows Jack to float & not have the best defender plus makes double teaming far more risky for the opposition.
2. Make winning clearance/contested ball a priority - with the 6-6-6 rule, why wouldn’t this be a priority? Playing a proper second ruck will help.
3. Need at least two more quality midfielders with elite foot skills, speed and contest winning ability. Dow may be one, the other one we’ll have to go find. Is it Cerra?
4. Backline needs two athletic talls. Balta is one but who is the other? Grimes, Vlaustin & Broad all utilities. Astbury looks almost done but is Miller up to it?

Realistically it now looks like we have 1 more year left with the 2017-2021 group to win a flag. By the end of 2022, Cotchin, Houli, Jack & maybe 1-2 others will be done. We can keep contending for a couple of years after that until Martin, Prestia, Grimes etc retire but only if we get the replacements needed.

The disappointing thing is that out of all our youth, probably only Dow & maybe Collier-Dawkins look elite. Still hoping Stack will recover what he had in 2019, but we need more elite talent regardless.

I agree with this. Our record against top 8 teams can only be described as poor. We are up against it in a big way. I don’t think we’re anywhere near the team of our premiership years.

We keep playing with fire and we’re getting burnt. We refuse to put teams away when we have them on the ropes and it has cost us badly this year. Not only in losses but percentage as well.

Trying to analyse the stupid decisions in the last 100 seconds.

On the wing Dusty wins the ball and is off, bounces it and has Castagna on his left should've handballed to him as a link-up running past. Dusty also had Aarts on the left of Castagna and jack a little further up on the left also. It was the wrong decision as we would've most likely scored if he took the earlier options but he tried to make the play, it did, however, still land in Castagna's hands after dustys low kick, if Castagna turns on his right he has 2 tigers running past Coleman Jones and Macca by memory. We 100% get a shot on goal but he decides to turn left Castagna and his crap kick falls straight into hurns hands.

In the last play after Hurn marks it, I have watched it like 5 times and Chol does the unthinkable which you can say added to why we lost.
Hurn kicks it to Harry Edwards, he plays on and as Lambert is chasing him Edwards would've had to kick it long and we would've marked it (game over) as we had players well-positioned to take the intercept mark. But harry Edwards instead spots up a short kick to Yeo as Chol "I could not believe what he did" he turned his back on Yeo and left him running away, Edwards kicks to Yeo who is free, he plays on immediately and kicks it long to Ryan who out bustles broad, Ryan then spots Kennedy with a 6-8 meter kick  = game over

This loss is the worst I have felt for years as we had so many chances to seal the game but kept making critical errors. Bottom line we choked.

That's one way of saying it. I'm so angry I could punch myself in the head Pettifer style......and knock myself out in the process.

Goddamn I haven't been this pissed off in ages.

Jayden Short giving away that absolutely stupid 50 turned the tide. Deserves a massive spray. So dumb!!!!
Never ever is a game turned on ONE mistake, but yep, that certainly was a Biggie, but along with ......

With 8 minutes to go....

- Dusty inexplicably plays on and it results in a TO.
-Shorts 50m penalty
-Marlion trying to do to much and losing the ball, another TO
-Flossy's kickout resulting in TO
- And finally Castagne's "let me kick the ball for no apparent reason other than to gift them the ball back and take it down the ground to score the game winner" .......... you mental giant of Man, seriously just go and play the year out in the McGoo's, so done with this bloke.

Shorty's kicking is a very real concern this year............ this up and under 10m hospital job he's developed needs to be eradicated right now by the coaching staff, his game was always about kicking the ball as long as possible, yet he now wants to get all cutesy and its not his game in the least.

Same with Baker and Bolton, what's with this constant want to instead of doing the simple things kicking-wise, setting up team mates in worse positions ? Its one thing to be unselfish but please, go with your natural instinct first and foremost. I swear, Bakes has me totally worried he has been watching to much of Myron Byron Gryon Miers and is trying to emulate that retards game style with his kicking FFS !!! Go back to basics lad's, it's not rocket science this game.

That game was as bad as I can remember as far as "general field kicking" goes.............. wow, was nothing short of horrendous and it wasn't just a few guy's, it was almost every player out there tonight had a clanger or 2 by foot, can't be expecting to challenge for Flags with those skills.

Hope the break heals a few up, not the end of the world even though it probably feels like it to many, can't afford to drop any games now that are "winnable" leading up to Sept, good challenge ahead, lets see what we have left in this group and just how hungry they truly are.

Dow needs to come onto this team asap. Is the one who has above average footy iq and disposal. RCD wont make a difference to us this year. Stack another that needs to come in asap as he has bounds of iq. MRJ find him a spot. Is the energy the fwd line is lacking. Find a spot for Miller. With Dave out we are just too short now in the backline. Isaac Smith would have been handy on a wing right about now

Problem is the game has evolved and teams have worked us out.
They haven’t worked us out. The new rules have changed the game. The man on the mark rule is the biggest fundamental change to the game in modern history. It’s hard to build pressure when there is none on the guy with the ball. Players that would normally fold under our heat have more space and time. We are playing the zone defence but we can get but up like Swiss cheese. It favours the “soft” uncontested style favoured by the likes of the cats and dogs.

We didn't *smile* panic. I refuse to believe this side panicked. This side played arrogant.

This side decided at the end, that we didn't need to keep working hard. We'd just show boat our way to the victory.

I tell you what, I reckon our era is over. Not because we aren't talented enough, but because they guys just don't *smile* want it anymore.
Too many players today played like *smile*.

Balta watching Kennedy run off him.
Jack watching Barrass take every mark by getting in front.
I could go on and on and *smile* on.

We played pretentious, wanker footy. We do not deserve a premiership playing this type of game.

Thank god we have the bye, because by christ if I were Dimma I'd tear their *smile* hearts out through their assholes.
They had no reason to win. NONE.

Don't let me hear "oh but the umpires". *smile* the umpires. It had nothing to do with them. It had everything to do with us being arrogant.

Pull your *smile* socks up Tigers, or *smile* retire.
Went HARD did Big Mark, but some merit in this for sure.

I also am a believer that we have a few who are way to complacent and satisfied, smug, cocky, arrogant, call it what you will, lets hope that a loss like this one opens a few eyes and brings out a few Home Truths among the boy's

Bad loss, we should have won, we had a big enough lead in the last to hold on. Very very disappointing.

3 things lost us the game: bad decisions, skills not up to scratch and woeful umpiring.

The forward pressure game is dead, well at least in home and away games, we'll see if it changes in the cauldron which is finals.

Our small forwards are not positioning well. I am not surprised Jack is trying to mark when we think he should be bringing it to ground, the only players in front of the pack are the opposition. The small forwards have to get in better positions. The whole idea of having small forwards bring massive pressure and hold the ball in just no longer seems to work so their role must change.

We should have slowed the game down near the end but that really isn't the way we play so keeping it moving is still the way to go, but they have to execute better and play the percentages better. Too many turnovers really cost us.

The change in game style is a response to the change in rules, but we really need to nail our passes better, way too many are off the mark. I don't know how they can fix this up mid season but we must adjust to the way the game is played and that means better execution.

The umpiring was an embarrassment. The "dangerous" tackle was not a dangerous tackle, the Richmond player deliberately made sure the WCE player went down on his side so he wouldn't get done for in the back. The throw by Grimes was a handball, mind you, the throw at the other end by a WCE player not 30 seconds later - that was the real deal, genuine chuck. The kick to Kennedy wasn't close to 15m. In a game decided right at the end by less than a goal this makes a huge difference, the difference between winning and losing. We should have won anyway, but it sure doesn't help when the umpires give a nice shove to the momentum shift that WCE got.

We're not gone, there were some decent signs. At times it did look like a Richmond game. Lambert came back well. Houli was good for a lot of the game. The back line did well considering they really are not tall enough to compete against that forward line. Vlastuin was back, he was really good for 90% of the game. We have players to come back - expecting us to be able to compete in the ruck for 4 quarters against NicNat when we are missing both Nank and Soldo is not realistic. Prestia back will make a substantial difference. Nank back will also make our defence taller. Chol is not a first ruck but he is getting better and can be a second ruck, he had moments and probably more of them than he used to have, but just does not seem to be able to switch on for the whole game, no idea why. Cotchin will improve.

Castagana has to lift and play more of a crumbing small forward, as does Rioli - either that or they shouldn't be playing. Blocking space simply ain't working, new role or out.

Caddy, the game seems to have passed him by. If he can get to where the ball is about to go he can be effective and it makes up for the lack of pace, but he rarely does this now.

It is going to be tough, but we can win finals, we do have players coming back. Time to take a breather, the Match Committee need to make some tough decisions, then reload and go for it.

Go Tiges.

Strange theory: I wonder if we had set up our training block/workloads for the year expecting the bye this week.

Then when it got changed we just ran out of legs tonight in a brutal game.

West coast are useless in last quarters but they ran all over us tonight in the 4th

Could also explain how so many of our guns displayed horrendous skills
