Game Day Richmond Vs Eagles

Scrappy game today (especially the first half) but a win is a win and we really needed one for confidence.

I thought the midfield were better today especially when Ryan was in the ruck.

Hugo needs to be dropped along with Cumberland. No skill from 1 and no effort from the other. Not sure what Banks needs to do to get a game in that role.
If Banks wants a game, he needs to find the ball and then do something damaging with it at VFL level first. Makes Clarke look like an inside beast at the moment.

Relieved to get win but gosh there’s a lot not working with this team at the moment. Outside of Jack, we so lack key targets forward of the ball.

Cumberland was very disappointing today, just didn’t present. Persevere with though.

It seems fairly obvious that the whole team is lacking in confidence - look scared of making a mistake early on
We played better and with more freedom once we got on top

My daughter was saying the same. Players want to pass the ball off so they don't have to take responsibility for any stuff ups. They need to be more willing to take the game on. Mistakes will happen and clearly our skills need improving, but being too timid to take the game on will not help.

Are you seriously doubledowning on this?

I rate your comments but you seem to have locked yourself in on this and fighting to the death. Ryan has looked goods the last 2 weeks again Gawn, Grundy and Witts and gave Williams a bath today.
So I've got next to no clue about ruck craft- but the commentary today was very critical of how predictable Ryan's ruckwork was.
I think he has potential, but a ruck like Gawn would dance rings around him now I think.

Our zone defence has been pathetic this year. This is why teams are able to chip around. When we went man on man in the second quarter we were much better from a defensive perspective. We need to continue the man on man game plan going forward until the team learn better discipline and structures.

The players we have in the team at the moment do not have the education or discipline for a zone defence.

The key thing that I noticed today was Dusty. He NEEDS the balance of the midfield and forward to be his best. He needs to go back and start in the midfield and go forward when he feels like it. People correctly say the Cotchin forward experiment has not worked. The Dusty forward 70/30 has also not worked. Needs to be in the midfield and forward 70/30 or however much he feels is right! He is almost back to his best!

We looked so much better from half way through Q3 when we just pushed the ball forward in any way possible. Scoring options opened. It’s how we play with this group. Just get back to it.

I am not crazy about one on one defence as players can run off defenders and you only need a split second to get separation, but our zone is not functioning right and some alternative is needed.

Watching todays game and having an eye to the future , there is 3 Cubs that could be stars or busts in a couple of seasons ,however I think they are 3 crucial types we need going forward . Gibcus we are desperate for another key position star, Sonsie we must find class ball users through the middle and Brown of half back , we need another run and carry weapon back there with DRioli.

Im not sure if it was just the poor opposition, however when we played on quick and moved the ball quick we seem to be hitting the scoreboard more .

I’m not being controversial, the kid looks ok but at times he is a giraffe on ice skates like Gus Graham did. So many big blokes never kick on. With Lynch and Nank playing he might not play. Calls like “build the team around him”, “Gawn like”, “ Multiple All Australian“ are absolute madness and show footballing naivety. Today was against VFL calibre rucks, he had 8cm. Today was maybe the worst side the Eagles have put in their entire history and you want me to call the kid a certainty To make it?

Nope.

You are being controversial. He is a 206cm kid in football terms. Of course he is going to look gangly at times. You again and and again fail to look pass this.

For a bloke who watches a lot of junior footy your blindness to his attributes is Greg Beck like.

As I said, he has played well the last 3 weeks against Gawn, Grundy and Witts too. Are they VFL calibre too?

Williams is 201 so you are over emphasizing on the height difference, its only 5cm. Even if he wins the tap, its more about WHERE he taps it. Almost 50% HTA% is crazy high (AFL average is something like low 30's). He is smart and knows where to tap it too.

His body is what he needs to work on and thats where the "Gawn like" comparisons have come from. It doesn't mean anyone is saying he will be as good but its the type of ruckman that he needs to be aspiring to be.

He'll play with Nank and Lynch back anyway. We like to play a 2nd ruck and we don't like rucking either Lynch or Jack, so he would be the 4th tall in that scenario.

Haven't watched yet as out at kids sport. Was Cumberland subbed?

Giraffe on ice skates?? Never seems to make an error which is what I expect to see but rarely do.

Stop being stubborn Spook. I get that you don't want to agree with Lazy, it is normally a good policy, but it looks like he got this one right.
The only question is whether Ryan is going to AA ruck or AA CHF, or both.

Wow.
He is in the gun at the moment

He was rubbish. No intensity, no effort, nothing. He was rightfully subbed and won't be playing next week. You imply cannot reward that effort. You can accept mediocre output when you are busting your gut, but not when there is little effort behind it.

Its very disappointing as I was expecting being dropped initially to be a kick up the arse but it seems not.
