Game Day Richmond Vs Eagles

Before that burst I would’ve called this Dion Prestia’s worse game in a Richmond jumper for a long time but he has broke the game open.

Ryan tapwork very good. Bolton, Baker, Dusty and Vlastuin lifted. Get the points and get out of this game.
Hopefully that was some sort of circuit breaker. He has been so far below his standard all season. Inexplicably snatching at ground balls, fumbling. Critical player.

I am happy - 4 pts beats 0 pts for those not good at maths.

It was better than I expected - about 30 points better. For a team so desperately out of form, the first half was to be expected - a scrappy dog fight but we hung in there and I was frustrated that our seasoned players - Prestia, Jack, Martin were having no impact so it was pleasing to see Prestia and Martin lift in the third.

Ryan played well - love his development and put out a fair portfolio of games so far this year (our best young player for sure), Bolton BOG, Prestia 3 in as many minutes was the difference but what I liked was Pickett and McIntosh back to some sort of form along with Short.

Baker leading the Jack Dyer medal at the moment.

I am still worried about Cumbo, he doesn’t trust his kicking which is a worry
The GWizz pair are keeping us in it at the moment but at least they had some help today.
I know people bag Millar but without Tarrant, Soldo and Nank he is doing OK and was better today (only 1 turnover kick)

For those at the game, was Rioli tagged as he seemed quiet or a bit off, Jack had nothing to give, he can’t take the number 1 defender anymore.

Vlas is back but Grimes seems further away which is a worry.

We are still rusty, dam rusty so it will be interesting to see how we approach next week.

Really liked the spread of midfielders in centre bounce attendances. Must continue to do that. Also, Samson doing the bulk of the rucking is a big win. 31 hitouts, 14 to advantage todayIMG_0588.png

Fair summation but I reckon Taranto is leading the b&f by a fair margin
Didn’t notice Rioli being tagged. He tried to create run and carry but was a little off today .
Our defence was quite ok today. Apart from Oscar Allan they didn’t really look like scoring. Thought Vlossy was good

What I took out of it is that when Ryan gets a frame on him he is going to do this against everyone.

It was great to get the win. I think the quality of our kids is a real concern though. I am not sure where will be in a few years time. We need a lot more from the likes of Hugo, Juddy and Cumbo.

How you could be happy with this win is beyond me. Nothing apart from Ryan was any good. We are just lucky we played a VFL team today

Can you at least get your facts right? It was a WAFL team, remember, they're from WA, it's why we don't have a VFL game this week.

That was not a great game, an ok win in the end but nothing to get our hopes up from.

The first quarter looked like the game last week, nothing doing, for either side. Thought WCE took their chances a bit better in the first but I looked at the stats and Richmond scored in 23% of our forward 50 entries, and WCE 28%. They are dire numbers.

We improved in the last 1.5 quarters and you could actually see some semblance of a game plan. Clearly with the stand rule and the way it has changed the game the team is trying to pick their way up the ground until they can get an opportunity to run and gun. The real issue is execution. So many short passes miss the target, so many handballs miss the target, kicking and handpassing to players standing still, just really bad execution. At one point I saw WCE get it out of the middle with a hurried kick and there right in front of the WCE player was a forward coming straight at him - the WCE player didn't even need to lower his eyes, his forward was presenting right in his eyeline. Why can't our forwards do this? Why aren't we trying to create some space in the forward line? It is very frustrating to see how easily our forward line is gummed up because our forwards are not moving enough, they need to create space better.

Some good signs out of today.

Samson Ryan, what can you say. Great ruck work, took a few marks kicked a goal.

Thought Ross was ok for parts of the game, needs to get better to really be AFL quality and not convinced he is capable, but a better game.

Miller was a bit better, he still struggles to really go in hard but thought he was more involved in contests, much work to do to get to AFL level but a small improvement.

For the life of me I cannot work out how Ralphsmith gets games, he is supposed to be fast but players run away from him. Disposal not great, contested ball not great, I'm not seeing it at all.

The really frustrating thing about today is thinking back to the Melbourne game where we pressured them for at least the first 3 quarters and were competitive, today and last week there was some pressure at times, in the third quarter it looked better, but most of the time not enough pressure. Then you look at that run of goals against Footscray and we can, sometimes, run and link up and score. But we just can't deliver that level of performance for large parts of games. Very frustrating.

But the worst thing is the execution. The missed short kicks. The missed handpasses. The fumbles. Watching the opposition intercept as we kick to a player who is not moving. Watching as our forward line fails to create any space. Very frustrating and does not bode well for next week.

It was great to get the win. I think the quality of our kids is a real concern though. I am not sure where will be in a few years time. We need a lot more from the likes of Hugo, Juddy and Cumbo.
Juddy is very lightweight and easily brushed aside
Hugo questionable disposal
Cumberland very much a confidence player
There’s no stand outs at this stage
Ryan is tracking well for a lanky colt

It seems fairly obvious that the whole team is lacking in confidence - look scared of making a mistake early on
We played better and with more freedom once we got on top

Good to get a win, even against West Coast….that first quarter was really really awful to watch. It was great to see Nathan Broad back - thought he was really important holding the line - Ryan was good and Miller tried - even surprised himself by taking a mark in front of goal. Thought Prestia missing early but really lifted second half. Thought Tiges intensity really lifted after a passage of play involving Dusty on Members wing. Almost like the old days.

Banks looks side eyed to Dimma who approaches to hug his 'favourite' player and thinks: "When will my time to get a hug come?"

Ryan certainly a player for the future. Imagine in another 2 or 3 years when he puts on a bit more bulk.

A goal kicking ruckman , yes thanks

Watching Ryan’s confidence grow week by week has been my highlight of the season so far. His tapwork was deliberate and influential. His forward craft is prophetic of how damaging he’s going to be, maybe as early as next year.

Jack played a selfless, sacrificial game. He’s 34 and still taking hits for the club. It’s not ego anymore for Jack, it’s pride.

Just wish the rest of the team had a bit more pride in that unwatchable first half. Just like the Suns game, we played pressure free footy. Guarding space, allowing easy uncontested transition, and then coughing it up under a bit of pressure the other way. We tightened it up in the second half, and that was the difference.

And Dusty playing more midfield minutes helped too.

Hopefully a few monkeys were dislodged today - we’re going to need everyone firing next week.

Still Gus like. But I’m fair. Not taking much from today, VFL rucks On both sides.
Are you seriously doubledowning on this?

I rate your comments but you seem to have locked yourself in on this and fighting to the death. Ryan has looked goods the last 2 weeks again Gawn, Grundy and Witts and gave Williams a bath today.

Scrappy game today (especially the first half) but a win is a win and we really needed one for confidence.

I thought the midfield were better today especially when Ryan was in the ruck.

Hugo needs to be dropped along with Cumberland. No skill from 1 and no effort from the other. Not sure what Banks needs to do to get a game in that role.
