That had to be in the top 5 biggest roars I’ve heard at a home an away game ……geeez it was good seeing all the moleskin wearers spiliing their craft beers
First time since pre our premierships that I saw a Richmond crowd so invested. What a great feeling that last 15 minutes was. Geez I want to be part of the finals again, nothing better than live footy with it all on the line.
I thought we had Vosstone too.I saw a bloke called Vlastuin taking a kick.
Not sure who this Vlaustin fella is ?
Chad disappeared when the heat got turned up.Wingard is killing us. It’s embarrassing.
Final wash up from yesterday. A one point win against a young developing team is more relief than celebration. Our deficiencies are there for all to see and have to be addressed before 2024.
The problems are all forward of centre for mine:
- Miller can’t play again. Timid as a forward. Doesn’t attack the ball. Not up to it.
- Pickett forward experiment an abject failure. Either drop him or return him to the wing.
- Jack at the end of a great career. Only came back into the game when the speed went off it. However with Lynch out, we have no one else of that size.
- Cumberland has to be played - natural forward. Work on his attitude at AFL level not VFL level.
- the mix of the team going forward needs sorting - we do have good young players like Banks who needs 5-6 games at AFL level. But that means dropping stalwarts like McIntosh. Are we ready for that?
One final thing - for three quarters yesterday, we were thrashed in centre clearance and they were clean & unpressured as well - embarrassing. Worst performance all season. Midfield coach & players need to get to work this week.
To me this is the biggest concern. We often look lethargic and disinterested particularly at the beginning of games. The best teams turn up ready to go each week.really we shouldn't have been so far behind in the 1st place. Even though we were playing poorly, we missed some of the easiest shots at goal in the first 3 quarters. I mean 15-20 metres out almost dead in front & they miss.
We were comprehensively out played at centre bounces & still had the same number of scoring shots at 3/4 time.
At times we looked disinterested, slow & reactionary, how many times were the Hawk players out on their own.
Imagine when we put four quarters together.Great win , but we struggle to put a 4 qtr effort and in a way that win is covering our issues.
The next 3 weeks will give us a clearer picture as to where we are as a club.Aside from the final term, I didn't think we played well at all yesterday nor the week before vs West Coast.
Yes we can laud the performance of players because we won but honestly I wonder if it is just papering over big cracks.
There were times yesterday we looked absolutely awful & I wondered if this was the end of our run.
Far bigger tests to come. Will need to play a heck of a lot better to make the finals from here.
Another rule that is so arbitrarily adjudicated so know one knows what an umpire will doYep. How many times have we seen it happen. Player deviates and then walks back because he's undecided. So many other frees or marks where the flogs give the player free time to decide.
Yeah, going to kick the ball but deciding not to doesn't necessarily mean youve gone off your line. And this happened a few times yesterday.Yep. How many times have we seen it happen. Player deviates and then walks back because he's undecided. So many other frees or marks where the flogs give the player free time to decide.
At times it looked as though the Hawks had double amount of players on the park because they had so much room to work in and the Tigers just looked onIn addition to the misses there were some key skill error turnovers when we were completely out and the trailing 5 hawks players were all suddenly in space and 50 out from goal. It looked a lot worse than it was.
Sicily would’ve had half the impact if Jack received the free kicks he deserved. Worpel 7 centre clearances is huge, but only 4 score involvements so don’t think he was that effective. Baker and Ross very stiff not to receive votes, thought Taranto deserved more than 1RICHMOND V HAWTHORN - COACH VOTES
10 James Sicily (HAW)
6 Jack Graham (RICH)
4 Noah Balta (RICH)
3 Jai Newcombe (HAW)
3 Dion Prestia (RICH)
3 James Worpel (HAW)
1 Tim Taranto (RICH)
Agree. The commentary is the Hawks dominated for 3 quarters. They didn't. They just couldn't miss, and we missed a bunch of easy shots. If should have been even at 3/4 tune.really we shouldn't have been so far behind in the 1st place. Even though we were playing poorly, we missed some of the easiest shots at goal in the first 3 quarters. I mean 15-20 metres out almost dead in front & they miss.
