GAME DAY !!!! Premiers v Pensioners

Remember, the problem is also one of experience. Playing raw youth cost us the port game also.

Almost every time RCD, Mansell or Ross got the ball under pressure the ball wasn’t put to advantage.

School is in session even as we compete for another flag. That’s what makes us a great club.

Good point.

We’ve been at our best every year when most of our key players are together, and that’s probably what Dimma meant with his post-match comment:

“If you look at the tape, you'll see their ability to fight through tackles … that's the difference in the game. The game is 10 goals, but it's amazing … if you nullify those contests and we don't make a couple of errors, the game becomes a hell of a lot closer.”

BTW, to leaven my bullish outlook, I don’t think Ross is an AFL footballer and never have.

Same. We’ll need a healthy list this year, then we’ve got more talent than most clubs coming in October

Cotchin & Prestia out makes all the difference. Can't drive a car without the engine.

Spot on. We are at tipping point with injuries. They are bad injuries too - soft tissue on older players. This is what I’m most worried about. Could be another month at least without Cotchin, Prestia, Lambert and probably Edwards. Not only do we need them back, we need them back with the full confidence they can make it to the finish line.

Bit of a worry too that it's 3 times already this year we've been touched up on our previous fortress MCG.
I do think that we're vulnerable to a team that moves the ball quickly on the open spaces with these SHocking new rules.

Cotchin was unbelievable in the second half of the the Doggies game. We can’t expect him to have to keep using his body like that for us to win games.

This to me exposes a gap in our drafting. I accept that it’s difficult to be winning premierships and collecting quality kids, but our midfield depth doesn’t have players capable of doing the heavy lifting of Cotchin and Prestia which is a concern, with Prestia also being injury prone himself.

Our weakened midfield is leading to terrible forward 50 entries as well as less pressure going the other way, which is hurting us defensively also.

I’m not as bullish as others about things just returning to normal when these guys get back. It’s a lot to keep asking.

Were made to look like little boys, the cats height, and especially their weight advantage was very obvious. Can't remember us missing so many tackles.

It looked like fatigue to me.

and I think we made cats look good.

missed kicks and missed tackles and dropped marks is fatigue.

footballers dont become *smile* in a week.

The WLWLW pattern is concerning. But its twice as good as a LLLLL pattern.

I think its a function of us playing an opponent playing their GF each week.

its exhausting being hunted.

the injury toll is obvious; we have now lost an entire starting midfield; Cotchin, Lambert, Prestia, Edwards.

if dogs were rolling without Treloar, Bont, Macrae and Libba, they'de be 4:4 at best.

But this is our lot. we pinched one last week, and got belted this week.

objectively, this is all we need to do for the next month,

limp, scrap, graft our way to 6:6,

and launch a campaign with our best 22 playing.

Im not a fan of the pressers, thought both Scott ( i usually hate his "spin'") and Hardwick spoke well, and there seems to be a bit of respect of each others team. Beating the Tigers is STILL the benchmark for 17 other teams

I'm confident we'll make finals and possibly top 4. With these guys back in the squad we'll be very tough to beat. But in the meantime we're getting a good look at the next generation and giving them much needed big game experience. In the event we lose someone to injury in September, we need one of these kids to step up and we'll be thankfull that we had the chance to blood them.

yeah you were good catman.

I haven't so much got egg on my face, as dunked my head in an uncooked army omlette vat.

one of those thrilling nights were your forward 50 crew looked entirely unstoppable.

Jcam was always gonna make you better, its a no brainer.

But im sure you'll agree, you know its you're night when Rohan kick 5.0?

definitely cause for optimism for you though.

I definitely think you are the equal most likely to be defeated in the 2021 grand final

How good is it giving our new guys a proper crack at the big league? It is invaluable for them personally and us as a club.
Both parties need to know if they are good enough and there is only one stage where the performance matters.
What we are experiencing is a blip on the radar of our future that we need to understand.
The year is long, we will be there at the pointy end no doubt about it.

Was this 3 more possessions than October last year? Haha
Pretty sure Vlaus will be a different player next time they meet.

Rohan is a non contested receiver, he will never be the guy who inspires his teammates with a hurculean act.

He is however one of the best 2-3 finishers in the game and made those long range set shots look easy. In the 2nd quarter Jack Graham has a shot from 50 and gets touched on the line and then goes up the other end to Rohan who kicks from the same distance and makes it look easy. Those things make a difference.
