GAME DAY !!!! Premiers v Pensioners

Can anyone explain why Mansell didn’t get a free for head high contact by Selwood? It was a fair way from where I was sitting and on the wrong side but the replays seemed pretty clear that Cheatwood got him high.

Or is just that he’s a Richmond player and the heads of Richmond players are not sacrosanct? Or that the umpires dare not pay frees against Cheatwood?
Ive seen oppostion sides this year get head high free kicks which are 10 times less deliberate

Just saw Dimma's presser !
Wish he would stop pissing in Geelong's pocket , every week the same.
Tell me he his tougher on his players?.

Geez that was horrendous. It basically went in the opposite direction to where he wanted to kick it. He needs to be dropped. He is offering us less than nothing at the moment. He is so badly out of touch it’s unfathomable.
I think someone needs to take his Etch-a-Sketch drawing set away from him as punishment. Maybe if he's not allowed to add anymore leg Tatt's until he lifts, the messege may get through !

75k.
Its the extra 40 bucks they charge to get a seat without getting a nose bleed.
Screw Dill & SHocking etc, my arse will never bother seeing the inside of a stadium again for what they offer up these day's. Miss the atmosphere of an AFL crowd for sure, BUT the viewing experience of a 4K 75" HD TV does me just fine in my Senior years Thank You very much ............. did I say F#*^ Dill yet ?

He'll get a rest for that, I have no doubt ....................Carey in comentatary...... "Incidental contact, think he'll be fine"!............the bloke is clueless, you'd think by now there is NO SUCH THING when it comes to the head region, but NO, not that Imbecilic woman-beater.

Just how far back do this Clown and that other Buffoon BT set this game back with their commentary ?

I actually don't mind Selwood apart from the diving and don't think there was any malice in it, but the AFL can't pretend to be serious about protecting the head and not give him a week. He really needed to put his own head over the ball like Cotchin/Shiel.

Not a good night at the office.

We should have been further ahead after the first quarter and into the second. We were heaping on the pressure but the delivery was off. Handballs to players' feet, bombs into forward 50. Not good and left the door open for Geelong.

The delivery into the forward line has not been good but there are a few factors there. Clearances out of the centre have been under too much pressure, we need to find some more space or outside runners, and the forwards need to move more. Our forward line looks very static. Lynch needs to present more, he needs to move around more.

Geelong are a good side. I said it earlier in the week, there are very good reasons they keep making finals, they were ahead in the GF at half time last year. They are very good. So, you always knew they were going to lift and come back at us. While the defence held in the first quarter and were very good, there are limits. In the third quarter Geelong were going well, then we fumbled a few times, plus a clearing pass which went straight to a Geelong player. You can't give a team like Geelong these sort of gifts, especially when they already have the momentum. Momentum is important, if we had taken those defensive marks and repelled the attacks we might have been able to withstand Geelong's momentum. But gifting them goals instead really killed the game. Just can't do that sort of thing against a quality opponent. Geelong have been noticeably playing on and running more this year and they were doing it again tonight. A sort of modified keepings off, they are combining the short passes and clean possession with more run. It is a good response to the changes in the game.

Richmond, way too fumbly, too many handpasses and kicks which were not good enough and put our players under pressure when they should have had clean possession.

A fair number of players are down at the moment.

Castagna is giving us very little, I think he needs a spell in the seconds.

Rioli is way too static, he needs to be moving the ball on a hell of a lot quicker, blocking space is all well and good but if that takes you out of the contest when it comes to ground in our forward 50 then it is not working. Having Rioli defend space is almost conceding the ball will come out of our forward 50 quickly, we need to be locking it in, not just defending the rebound.

Lynch seems out of sorts, he really needs to be moving around a lot more, Get rid of the multiple defenders by running away from them. Whatever his role is at the moment it simply is not working.

Mansell dropped a sitter which led to a Geelong goal. But I'd give him a break on that one given that he had just had his head whacked. I like what I see with him, however, we really need to have a good look at how many small defenders we can have at one time. We need some more height and intercepting marks in the back line.

Not the end of the world, and certainly not the end of the season. We have a relatively easier draw as we go further into the season. Many winnable games. But we certainly need to improve on the efforts against Geelong and Melbourne if we are going to be any chance of contenders at the end of the year.

Umpiring: putrid as usual. There is no way we gave away 21 free kicks while they only gave away 11. The rules seem to change every 30 seconds. FFS something has to change. The umpiring, not just in our games, is a mess. It is simply all over the place, you have no idea what they are going to do next. Adjudicating high level sport should at least be somewhat predictable - given situation leads to given outcome. This should not be too much to ask.

Was it the speed of Geelong’s kicking? Speed is like chaos, it’s hard to plan and setup for..?

Kicking speed > running speed

We usually look for answers within, but several clubs have exposed vulnerabilities in our system for large portions of matches, which hasn’t really happened over the past 4 years.

What did Geelong do so right for 3 quarters?

Kicking speed > running speed

We usually look for answers within, but opposition clubs have made significant changes to counter the way we play, so I think we need to look closer at how they’re beating us.

What did Geelong do so right for 3 quarters?
It was simple
2 or 3 chip 12 metre kicks,
Hit the front of centre, either hit up a target coming towards the ball or unleash it inside 50.
As soon as we fumbled or the ball hit the ground they bent us over.
The spreading kicks down back bent us over because when Smith, Guthrie or Duncan got it they went for it.
I'm not sure you show your hand in round 8, Hardwick will study it

We allowed them to do that cups.

Remember, the problem is also one of experience. Playing raw youth cost us the port game also.

Almost every time RCD, Mansell or Ross got the ball under pressure the ball wasn’t put to advantage.

School is in session even as we compete for another flag. That’s what makes us a great club.

Back to back highlights of the night for me has been the magnificent slow cooked beef pie from 7/11 a fair dinkum credit to the 7/11 staff .

The next generation continue to leave question marks going forward , imho if we get all the old champs back we are still the team to beat , going forward I’m not so sure unless a few kids start to step up, in saying that Bolton, baker , balta us a pretty handy bunch to start with , cmon Sydney there is a massive opportunity and need there for u kid

BTW, to leaven my bullish outlook, I don’t think Ross is an AFL footballer and never have.

And can I just repeat we are starting of the worst preparation any team in the competition has ever had!
Richmond and dGeelong both had the same amount of prep time. The shorter prep time didn’t seem to affect them tonight.

People are forgetting Dimma has lost a lot of assistants too. Leppa is a huge loss. Dimma had no answers tonight.
Still doesn’t have a plan B. After watching Sound the Alarm, Geelong took control of the centre and went down the middle at most opportunities. Cant believe Dimma didn’t watch that footage, so where was his counter?
