Game day Crows Vs Tigers

We need speed, speed and more speed. Good to get the win, but we look old and slow - and will struggle to make the 8 unless we inject youth and speed into the side.
It’s round 2 , even country league teams look fast early in the year ! When winter hits big bodied midfielders are just as important as speed. We only looked slow for the 3rd term in my opinion.

Check out the wrap up of the game with Beveridge & Kano on the AFL site.
Nothing about our 3qtrs but how Adelaide kicked 16 behinds and that they shouldve been leading at 3qtr time.
But we are used to it.
Wrap up of games without comment about our win but how the opposition lost and last week it was all about Carlton how they couldn't hold on for the win.
The behinds kicked is always overrated as it's the same as saying ,if only Tex Walker has passed it onto Rochelle's chest instead of kicking it out of bounce.

I think people are forgetting that Adelaide played what was sublime footy against GWS in the first half last week.Sure they got run down but it was no surprise to me that they could run us down in the second half of the game. They will trouble many sides IMO.
Yes they have a emerging incredible forward line.

In the third we again showed a bit of a weakness against fast rebound footy.
The Pies love to play this way. We're going to need to find a way to quell their slingshot game.
No doubt we'll be all over it..

I think fast rebound footy is modern footy.

Most teams will have a turn during a game and play with some momentum, it’s been happening for years. What is different now is teams seem to be able to kick more goals than previously when their team is on, it’s what the AFL want, they think more swings of greater margins is good footy.

What we have to do is limit the run ons and hold fast when they happen, we did that against the blues, limiting their scores but struggled against the crows when they were on. Credit to the tigers, they did manage to regain momentum despite the crowd, despite the crows playing kamikaze footy.

Clearly not pinned here though, this is before he hit the ground and his hand hit first
If you watch the video of it, Broad has both arms pinned as he swings him to the ground. The fact that one arm isn't pinned just as he hits the ground doesn't matter -- the player couldn't protect himself.

Having watched the game, Adelaide really went up a couple of gears in that third quarter. We should have been able to limit the damage better but I reckon we are seeing all teams have trouble when their opposition start to really take on the game and move the ball very quickly.

Can any team stop the run off half back these days? I suspect most teams are trying to defend closer to goal when the ground loses width.

Adelaide certainly should have kicked straighter but a fair number of their chances were under pressure or forced wide, that has been a strategy of ours for years. So, yeah, they missed some very gettable shots, but also missed some shots which were low percentage.

I think the defence were good, but we do need to sort out our positioning a bit better when it comes out of our forward line, we need to be putting more pressure on when the ball reaches the middle of the ground, try and have some impact on the delivery to forwards.

Good to come out with a win and good to see the way they got back on top at the end of the game. It is March, we need to bank wins like this, the 4 points are valuable. The entries inside 50 were better than last week, still a bit more work to do but last week was truly terrible.

Simply can’t play Martin, Ryan, and an aging Jack in the same forward line. It's just too easy for the ball to rebound out under zero pressure.

There is a Current AFL side that's played 19 games in a row since 2022 that's had only a 6 point loss has its worst game.
The same side last time they played Collingwood

A good reminder that Collingwood's absolute weakness is key backs.

If we can get good ball to Lynch, Riewoldt and Ryan enough times then we will do well. We've beefed up the midfield to win first possession so if we are on the right track that's how we should win it.

Thats exactly where it is. If we can win it out of the midfield we will be fine. They dominated Port all over the ground yesterday, they won contested possession by 57!! Thats unheard of and they won pretty much every quarter by double digits.

We've been pretty good in this area to start the year (bar the 3rd quarter yesterday) so if we can match them and control territory for at least parts of the game, then our talls will give them trouble.

Have not been impressed with our forward line 3 tackles yesterday in our forward 50 pies will kill us if that happens. Our forward line is lacking speed.

My thoughts exactly re: teams stopping run-ons.
It wasn’t just us, Crows had a purple patch no team would have stopped. The fact we fought back to win by 5 goals is not getting enough credit.

Yep - watching the game I'd almost given up. We were toast.

Did Hopper going off for treatment to his ankle spark the Crows run out of the middle?

Watching on TV I don't know how long he was off. Stats show he only had ToG of 69%.
