Footy Show

Left too long to even be a mercy killing.

Should never have been attempted anyway.
Eddie McGuire's ego says a big hello.
It's the only reason they kept the name etc. He wanted to be able to say longest running sports tv show until he dies.

Sad, but like HHIS it has done its time.

The Front Bar just doesn't go for me. Watched it a bit but just seems too bland with 3 drunken blokes sitting in same spot rambling on. No action like what the Footy Show had. Sooner or later Mick Molloy's gonna become an ear sore.

There's another step back from football for me.

Maybe because I don't watch it alot but I love the Front Bar. Plenty of interesting guests and great to go back in history. Footy Show too stale. No ones interested in team announcements these days, we know already via social media. Stopped watching it quite a while ago. Every show has a life, you gotta know when to fold em.

This was a very good show back in its days.

Does any one know the true story to Sam Newman hitting David Schwarzin in the face with the cream pie?

The Footy Show changed our relationship with footballers and as a result with the game itself. Before TFS, we got glimpses of footballers but never really got to know them. All we'd see is interviews explaining the game they'd just played. TFS introduced us to their characters, and took them from being names to people with personalities. We became more invested in the game as a result. That said, it's been a shadow of its former self for a long, long time now. Longer than The Front Bar has been around. The Front Bar might have caused the final nail being hammered in, but the coffin has been under construction for a long time now.

There'll be no tears in my beers, the footy show lost it's soul when they shafted Trevor Marmalade.
Sam Newman got cheap, dirty jokes by putting sh!t on people. Marmalade was genuinely funny, after he left i soon lost interest and haven't watched it for years.

Agree, Marmalade was the heart of that show. They tried everyone in the last days to replace him with Hughesy and Fev, but it fail miserably.
The question I would ask, with the show in decline who made the decision to make Hutchison the Host.
Because for me it was the end on that day.

Finally, the inevitable axing of an insipid show which has been on life support for a long time.
The decay started a few years ago when the show stopped being about football and descended into a cheap variety show featuring a bunch of puerile grown men.
This latest incarnation of the Footy Show was simply unwatchable. I struggled to get through 10 minutes of the first episode before switching off. The panel was bland and Neroli Meadows’ persistent cackle was insufferable.
I loved The Footy Show in the 90s heyday, but very happy to see it go.

Very sad to see to see something end after so many years. I haven’t watched for more than a decade, but credit where it’s due. TFS was a true trailblazer and took the *smile* out of the game, players and fans in roughly equal measure.

Especially feel sorry for all the hard-working folk behind the cameras, many of whom have probably worked on the show for more than a decade.

The Front Bar is a great show. Agree that Trev was the star of the Footy Show. Professionals win out.

In its day it gave us a look at the characters of footy - Dougie, Billy, Dippa etc - and we got our first look at the teams (no longer waiting for the Friday papers). Now, though, the players are media-trained and boring, and we all have the teams by 6:30 on our devices.

I'm surprised it took so long for The Front Bar to come along and return the format to the characters of the game, especially given how well Before The Game did.

Good post.

Sam Newman was the footy show. It died when they neutered him
I hardly watched it for the last 15 years, however I agree he made the show for most people to start with but by the end he’d turned a hell of a lot off it. I reckon for every fan he has he has 5 that have no time for him.
