Footy media , love’m or hate’ m ?

Surely they wouldn't go anywhere near something like this until they have 20 teams in the comp.
Yep. This system is only good with divisions and conferences. We don't need this in 18 team/1 ladder AFL. Just gifts the 9th and 10th team too much.

"Wildcard" in the AFL would be just a fancy word for a final 10, with 6-10 playing knockout finals week 1.

It’s another cash grab. Just like Magi…Gather Round. The NRL has said no to this concept and the AFL never has an original thought, so they may also baulk at this.

This wildcard rubbish is doing my head in. Is this Dillon's first mistake?
Eddie says it’s a good idea because it’ll give the teams outside the 8 to stay in the finals hunt longer. Ffs, they’ve had 23 rounds to earn a finals spot! They weren’t good enough! We have to draw a line, not play 23 rounds to determine a final 8 but then say, “oh, you still have another opportunity “. Stupid.

This could be a good year to trial it ………………. if and only if the tigers finish 9th. :peepwall

Otherwise it is a bloody ridiculous idea, absolutely ridiculous.

Yeah what happens once it goes to 10. Oh those poor teams that finished 11th and 12th, shouldn't they get a crack.

It'll end up like the playoff seasons in the movie Baseketball

Exactly.

We're going to play 23 weeks of football to eliminate less than half of the teams?

Is this Hutchy pushing his NFL agenda again?

Amazing that Media haven't picked up Longmire hypocrisy re Rampe hit off ball. Didn't he want send off rule where concussed player is concerned? Horse reckons Rampe collision causing concussion was an accident. About 80 metres off ball. He should be held to account after his comment after Nankervis hit.

If we don’t trade in or conjure up any forwards that transform our forward line into something functional I’m all for 2nd, 3rd & 4th chances, because we’ll need them.

That'd be the rubber stamp on a truly Mickey mouse competition :vomit :flush

The competition is riddled with inequities.

We already live with differing ground sizes, unbalanced fixtures, father-son picks, academy zone and player shenanigans, successful clubs being *smile* financially, weaker clubs existing from hand-outs, inconsistent umpiring (partly due to constantly shifting rules and interpretations), secret sauce player valuations during trading time, low brow goal line technology…

And for me footy is entertainment (at the end of the day), so if a tweak to the finals system means I’d potentially get to see the Tiges play finals more often I’d take it.

Let's expand it a top 12 then so we give those down the bottom longer to stay in the finals hunt.
