Footy media , love’m or hate’ m ?

Don't read or listen to the football media. Far too many talking heads spouting nonsense in the past so I just switched off.
I get all my footy news (the good, the bad and the fascinating) from PRE and only PRE.
I recommend changing to this if the footy scribes are bothering you.
It’s good advice BT , I follow very few on Twitter ,I’ve recently got rid of most AFL pages on there and my FB , it’s the bloody retweeters that get me

Peggy O'Neal said "we've learnt not to expect any favors from the AFL" at an AGM i attended in 2018 i think. It stemmed from questions from the floor on why the AFL excluded Richmond from any funding from the proposed $500 million AFL precinct re-developments whilst other clubs received and also being overlooked for an inaugural AFLW license after we had put in so much work, could self fund our inclusion etc.
You could sense the simmering hostility.
The AFL has been rogering us ever since.

She said the same on the Sam Lane podcast about our AFLW team when we were overlooked for a licence originally.

This has been building up and club has stayed silent on it , but now it's got to thee point they can't.I can tell you right now the club wasn't happy with the stance the afl took with CCJ and Stack 70k fines ,100k soft cap suspensions etc while other clubs got away with robbery

The problems appears to be the AFL make up rules and decisions on the run with no consistency. Looks amateurish

AFL is law within itself.
But that’s a great point, why does Richmond cop these huge fines? Compared to other clubs?
$20,000 is overtop, free kick count against Brisbane on the back of what Dimma and Gale said?
fish rots from the head down.

Peggy is just a conspiracy theorist…

The AFL’s disdain for our club goes back at least a decade.

- Gary March spoke about asking for AFL assistance around 2009 when we were broke and being knocked back despite the AFL giving other struggling clubs millions in handouts.

- Getting Skoda to shift their sponsorship from us to GWS.

- Reports several AFL commissioners were upset that we beat GWS in the prelim in 2017. Again in the GF in 2019.

- Being lowballed on free agency compo for Ellis.

- Excessive punishment for Stack and CCJ compared to other clubs and players with similar breaches.

- Recent rule changes that feel oddly targeted at us.

There are others but those are the ones that I can remember off the top of my head.

One good thing the media do for us is they keep writing us off , the only year they talked us up was 2018 and I think that didn’t help , at the moment they are surley just sparking the boys mentally

where there is smoke, there is fire
Yep it is clear there is a concerted and orchestrated campaign being undertaken by the AFL against Richmond. It manifested itself in the ludicrously biased and one sided umpiring performance in the Brisbane game. Anyone with working eyes can see it. Yet there seem to be a few who like to look down their noses at everyone else and claim it is is all a figment of our imagination or that if their is anything to it then it’s all our own fault.

Pffffffffftttttttt!!!!

Yep - It's all in our head.

Conspiracy theories.

The Umps and the AFL do a great job and provide a level playing field.

we're just a bunch of whingers.

I've been thinking about the $20k "fine" that's been foisted on Shai & the RFC & I seem to recall that SUPPOSEDLY the MAXIMUM fine that can be levied against an AFL player is $5k.
If so how come Shai & The Club have to pay such a high penalty.

Seems inordinately excessive to me, but maybe I'm just being paranoid.

Looking forward to the Richmond love from the media later today about how we're taking a hit for the good of the competition by moving our home game to Sydney

Same.

I stopped following the AFL’s shock jock media in January 2018.

Covid news can also get to a point where it’s a bad experience. I’m sure most of us know that feeling of relief from cutting back on the amount of covid news we see.

Cutting back on the AFL shock jock media is a similar experience.
