Footy media , love’m or hate’ m ?

Robbo today:

“Park the whine Tiger: I’m all for a good whinge but it can get tiresome for others, even if you think you are right. Richmond is losing games and making its frustration public and does not get a lot of sympathy. On the flip side we haven’t heard a peep out of David Noble or the clubs executive during a season of torment. All they talk about is trying to win games of footy. Perhaps the Tigers should follow suit.”

First Cornes now him, what whingeing have the footy club done? This seems like a classic case of a beat up.

And having sour whingeing whining plicks like Robbo and Cornes whingeing about whingeing is high class hypocrisy.

I don't remember the media being this vitriolic when the Hawks, Cats & Lions were ruling the roost, why are they acting likes d***heads because we're having some success.

I don't watch the footy shows, read the "papers", or listen to the radio footy shows anymore.
I'm sure I'm not the only person who just can't stomach the cr@p these morons spout.

I've been watching footy for over 65 years, played it for some 38 years & been a Richmond member for over 50 years.
I can honestly say I've never been more disillusioned with the game, the umpiring & the morons running it as what I am now.

They wonder why crowds are down, sure Covid is having an impact, but I'm very sure a lot of folks are in the same pi55ed off boat as me.

The AFLs management of the organisation as a whole & the game itself is nothing short of abysmal. I detest them.

It's the typical schoolyard comeback - "have a cry". That's about Robbo's intelligence level.

Hey blobbo, you drunken fool. We know you’re all for a good whinge. We all witnessed it the past few years in regards to how badly you thought your beloved drug cheats were treated. If you were sober you would have remembered that Richmond actually won last week when Dimma commented that we don’t like the shithole that is marvel stadium.
And also, if you lot in the media don’t like what Dimma says, don’t ask him *smile* questions then. He can’t win with you pricks. He gets asked questions and answers them honestly he gets criticized. He refuses to answer them you lot will complain he’s sooking.
GAGF!!!!!

Article on foxfooty.com also talking about our "whinging". They actually have 2 shots at us. The 1st one because we complained about the free kicks on Friday. The 2nd one was around the HTB rule again, where it states again that Dimma is the one that raised this, even calling it "Dimmas desired rule change".

Hang on, this came out in the below video shown on our website. The journo asked the question following on from Brett Ratten having a go about the HTB rule the week before, and he even said "last night Chris Fagan said we should do away with prior opportunity, what do you think about it", and then Dimma said his piece that he agrees and players will learn and go back to tapping the ball to advantage.

Why is this not being called Chris Fagans desired rule change?? He brought it up 1st, Dimma was purely asked for his thoughts and now all of a sudden he's driving this and its another whinge from the Tigers. Its a complete setup. If Dimma didn't ask the question, he'll be called precious and arrogant for not talking to the press, he answers the presses questions and then he's called a whinger. How do we win in this circus? (btw I already know the answer).

This is the video, shoot through to about 2.45.

The AFL world is fed up with Richmond, but is the empire really crumbling?

"We are desperate for the Tigers to fall off the perch but only a fool would write their obituary just yet"

At least they're not shy about admitting it.

That piece is pretty good actually.

Actually, it's the first media piece I've seen that references what we all know, well not all, most...

The Tigers were certainly stitched up at times against Brisbane on Friday night. Coaches, players and journalists have always exercised a certain restraint when it comes to criticising umpires. It is an unwritten – and, in many ways, noble – rule.

surprise, surprise, look beyond Murdoch and The AFL useless boys club,

and you get something readable and resembling reality

you're gonna love this; manages to call Kane Cornes a fuckhead, bag the umpiring, and defend the tigers all in 1000 words.

It's seems like an almost organised media attack as so far it has been Tom Morris, Mark Robinson, and Damien Barrett all having a go directed specifically at Dimma. Barrett even questioned the Hungry and Humble mantra and suggested Dimma is probably on shaky ground with the afl. Perhaps Dimma needs to front all media from now on with a pre-written script of the only quotes allowable to any question and constantly repeat the same over and over and over.

Of course it's a set up. The media did the same last year and are at it again. It's clear as day.

They've set us up with the rule changes and the media hatchet job.

I've never witnessed anything like it.

But they've snookered us - we mention or raise it then we are whinging and sooking and complaining blah blah blah....

The media has portrayed us as undisciplined thugs, and stagers, who weren't appreciative of the hub requesting extra towels and day spa's, who wanna play 22 games at the MCG, and complain about everything including umpiring decisions.

Is it any wonder that on match day, the above gets absorbed by the pea brained umps and they ream us even further.

A big frustration for me is the lack of balance. The loudest shrills are Cornes and Blobbo. But netiher look further than the headline. There is no depgth to any analysis. Robbo is all off the cuff and on the fly. Lyon did well to call him out for his utter ignorance last week. But he's the same every week, a complete lack of in-depth analysis on any issue.

Cornes whole argument on the home ground advantage was torn to shreds last week by a caller to kermit. I'd love to know if it was brought up with him on his program.

I find I am listening less and less to SEN when I was once a daily listener from 7.00-12.00am.

Dimma needs to publicly go after Kornes. He has become an unhinged shithead who takes every opportunity to slander our club.
Coaches like Sheedy and Clarkson at their prime would’ve skewered idiots like Cornes.

They were premiership teammates in 2004. surely, they would be in reasonably close communication? I know former teammates don’t always get along, but i once heard Cornes say there is a WhatsApp group involving all of the 2004 premiership members.

Personally, I feel someone at the club needs to sit down with Cornes and tell him to STFU. Dimma seems to be the right person because of the Port Adelaide link.

OK, so people might respond to me by saying Richmond thrive on the "us against the world" persona. And I think that point is valid. But I am worried things will get out of hand if this continues.

The reaction of non-Richmond fans on social media that swallow his garbage is getting worse and worse. Remember all the vitriol directed at Tom Lynch last year? It was borderline bullying from a media out to get him. If Richmond continue to ignore the bullsh.it coming out of Cornes mouth, who knows what it could lead to.

Yep agreed - authenticity and vulnerability are keys to our internal success. However this approach does not do us any favours externally. We are a club with incredibly positive values - that the media loves to take a dump on. Life ain't fair so play the game.

Dimma's speaks the truth to the media when he is better off blatantly lying. There is a reason that most play a straight bat - it gives the media flogs nothing to be negative about. So whilst its hard, give the bastards nothing at the next presser or next interview. Be boring.

The Marvel comment is a classic example - the point is 'why are we playing home games at an away venue? However his heart on his sleeve honesty turns it into a feeding frenzy.

Constantly saying that Richmond 'pushes the line' (from a umpiring perspective) has not helped either - it feeds the narrative that we should be penalised more. This is nonsense as every team pushes the line. At most he should simply ask the journos to look at the weekly and yearly free kick stats and make up their own mind.

Agreed. Dimma needs to give the media nothing more than the basics. The problem that will create though, is they will still turn it back on us, that we are arrogant and won't talk to the media anymore, similar to how the media still go after Dusty.

One difference we, and I assume future dynasty teams, face that the previous ones didn't is social media. Every Tom, *smile* and Harriette now has a voice, fringe journos trying to make a name for themselves have a platform. It's a lot easier to whip up a frenzy, or direct the narrative because of social media.
