Essendon = Entitlement

I love it.

Great to see the bloke healthy, great to see him putting his hand up for the job.

Hope he gets it and does really well, for the first time ever I'll be hoping Essendon wins against the 16 other teams, and finishes runner-up.
Just bring Thommo back and pretend nothing ever happened.

I wouldn't mind seeing that either, bit more complicated though.

Sorry to be rude, but *smile* off…

It's ok, I'm used to rudeness on here and especially on this topic.

Generally speaking though, I find people have super strong opinions on this topic without having the knowledge to support their confidence in them. A bit like umpiring. :)

Demetriou’s court cases would also have to be close to being settled by now; I can’t see why he wouldn’t also be given a pop at heading up the AFL again given he was the Alpha in the whole vitamin supplements misunderstanding.

The boys are almost all back in town.

This is probably more true than people realise. I thought Carlton was bad with their nostalgic revisionism. The bombers are off the planet.

TBH I reckon one of two things have happened:

A) bombers are running a faux process and have one person in mind
B) bombers are running a faux process and have one person in mind
C) all of the above

Why would anyone want to go there? Seriously. The off TPP deals must be insane

The drugs scandal had a lot more people involved than just Hird if you ask me and a hell of a lot of them got off without any sanction.

I'm certainly not convinced that Hird will be a great coach, don't think he was very good last time and it isn't like he's been getting experience since.

But I really do wonder what this will do to Hird himself. Essendon is clearly a club with a lot of issues, not least all the coterie groups you hear about. If Hird goes back there as the golden boy and cannot get results out of what I reckon is a pretty average list, and the prospect of the list not improving much given Dodo's record, what will it do to Hird? What little I know about Hird doesn't particularly make him sound likeable but I really wonder about whether anyone is thinking of Hird's well being, if he goes back there, fails, and gets all the crap poured on him for not leading them to the promised land, I reckon it is a bit irresponsible. If they bring him back they need to provide a lot of support, oh, and a decent list might help too.

There is dumb and then there Is Essendon. The golden boy syndrome is so sickening to everyone outside the club and a fair few within I suspect but the powerbrokers in Dodo and Sheedy want it to happen thus it will. Everyone will know the whole process has been a sham. As to Hirds culpability in the whole supplements saga, he was the one who “worked” with Shane Charters and thanked him in his 97 Brownlow speech. Charters was a bodybuilder/trainer but his methods of training were well established by that stage. So to think that golden boy went to see him to do some gym work and nothing else is laughable.

Staggering that Hird is even in contention for the job. Oversaw the largest systematic doping program in Australian sporting history but is given another chance because he is a “good bloke” and has “learnt his lesson”.

Some mistakes are too big and too significant to deserve a second chance. Hird should never be a senior coach again and he should serve as an example to others of the responsibilities and standards that must be upheld while occupying that position.

He left the Essendon job due to the outside pressure of the media/public following the drugs saga, he also tried to commit suicide. Does he, or anyone, think that he’s going to be under less pressure and scrutiny this time around?

Don't mind Hird and reckon he should get a second chance. Not sure about wanting Essendon to be successful though.

Coterie club.

Still.

An astounding feat in 2022.

I know we all get massive lols from the train wreck that is the Bombers however, the AFL should not let Hird coach again.

They step in and interfere on other matters, surely they stop a guy who disgraced the competition as a result of overseeing a systematic doping program, from ever coaching again. What he put those players through is a disgrace and the competition will be even further tarnished if they allow Essendon to appoint him as senior coach again.

The fact they even interviewed him again beggars belief.
The AFL ticked off Hird’s return to coaching early in the year. It’s been a gradual process. Let him handover the Norm Smith medal last year, don’t worry about part of the crowd booing. Then he becomes assistant coach at GWS this year to show him involved currently. He rides into the 150th Essendon celebrations on a wave of cheers from the faithful and gets up and does a speech to much adulation. Sheedy crosses camps in the boardroom to vote against the Hird naysayers. All of the “ no Hird people” leave the board, right after the coach is shafted in pathetic, public humiliating fashion. Guess what? The vacancy is created.

Robbo has been screaming and crying on 360 and writing pro Hird articles for years and years. He is, to all intents and purposes, the Hird/Essendon media mouthpiece.

AFL, who tipped Essendon off via the phone call from Demetrius to reduce brand damage are “weak as p-ss”.

I reckon that is a bit harsh, I think the umpires have knowledge about the rules, they just struggle to apply them correctly in the heat of the game.

I dont really care either way about Hird, and wouldnt care if he got a 2nd chance, but seriously if they appoint him after such little involvement in football for the past 8 years, any other applicant now for the job should vow never to work at that club.- and the AFL should not even consider any calls for assistance if they continue to prop up the ladder.
the only way he can be the best applicant for the job is if he is the only applicant for the job.

Spot on. I thought Whateley was bad and Robbo says hold my beer(s).

I swear to Christ he looks like he still rocks up to 360 half cut
