Essendon = Entitlement

I reckon Lyon has shown he will not go through a process not matter what. Wants the Clarkson treatment.

Personally, I hope Hird returns to the job. I think it would be a great result for club and person.
How could selecting a coach who has barely been involved in the game for 8 years be a great result for the club? (unless by club you mean Richmond?)

It’d be great for Essendon to have the much maligned prodigal done return. For about a month.

Bringing Hird back won't help Essendon. It'll just re-ignite the illegal PSD drama, rather than accept it, put it behind them, and move on, like Essendon need to do to move forward.

Hird was an untried coach when he took the role. Now he'd be an untried coach who has had 7 year break from the game.

Hird would be an unmitigated disaster that sets them back another decade.

Hope the flogs do it.

Personally, if my son was an Essendon player & Hird was appointed coach, I'd be advising him to get out of there asap.
When this drugs scandal 1st hit, Hird said"the buck stops with me" & then he did everything he could to run away from that statement.

He should not be entrusted with the welfare of the young men who play for that club.

If He is then the club hierarchy should be ashamed of itself.

Loved this quote from Ross Lyon after he rejected interest from Essendon

"But if you look at their history, anyone from the outside, and this is what's got to change in my view, Matthew Knights from the outside didn't work, John Worsfold, even when they made finals there were noises about John, and then Rutten.
It's like an organ transplant, after two years you get rejected. I think they've got to get their head around outsiders coming through.

Not intending to listen, but the James Hird 'charm offensive' has been launched in a tell all interview with Mark Howard.
That's the Mark Howard who worked for Dave Barham ain’t it?
Imagine the value getting Jimbob back to the bombers will bring ... package deal with Tanya in charge of club infrastructure.

Is not going to be a pleasant experience for prospective coaches to go through the process, only to miss out to the drug cheating Hird.

I don't think that's an insurmountable issue, he's been involved at GWS this year and I'm sure he would have kept a close eye on the game in the interim.
That's enough for me. Bring back Hirdy.

It might not be an "insurmountable issue", but i cannot see how a guy who has not been closely involved in a football department for a long time until the last half of this season could be the best person for the job, and this kind of "idolising" of great players inevitably gets clubs into trouble.

the other issue Essendon would face if Hird coached is that very few of their list would have been at Essendon when Hird was there. for many, who were teenagers at the time, he probably was the coach who gave his players performance enhancing drugs, he isnt necessarily going to walk into the job with the full respect of players (and families etc), and that means if things dont go well he wont necessarily have the playing group united behind him.

i dont have an issue with Hird, but any club giving him the coaching job now if foolish i reckon. he needs to do his time like every other successful coach in recent years.
