Essendon = Entitlement

What an absolute unmitigated disaster of a club. What, you wouldn’t do a full background check on someone being appointed into a position like that ? Staggering. But then again, maybe not considering it’s Essendon.

Between them and North it’s hard to know who’s worse.
Yep. Just watched that train wreck of an interview with their president and the journo put it to him that they could have surely just googled the guy’s religious beliefs before they appointed him. And the illustratious pres says that they were from sermons years ago that were not easily accessible. You cannot make this stuff up! :)

Tomorrow we will hear the news that Barham has stepped down as President of the Club. Replacement to be one Kevin Sheedy.

Thursday morning Sheedy appoints James Hird as CEO after a rigorous discussion with himself for the bestest person in the world to be the CEO.

Friday morning Hird sacks Brad Scott as coach. Scott to be paid the full 4 years of contract as Hirdy says….’it’s all good, a mystery benefactor will pick up the bill”. Paul Little, wealthy magnate and ex CEO of Toll Holdings sitting at home and eating his cornflakes while watching the news, chokes on his Kelloggs and is rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

Hird then announces himself as Coach as well as CEO for life. Legal Agreement prepared by Tania Hird as legal counsel for the Club between the Club and Hird signed and ratified by the President K Sheedy and a Mark Robinson.

Done deal my friends!!!

I don't know, I've seen a lot of people employed with a lot of things examined about them, but never what church they go to and what the sermons given at that church said.

It didn't come up while he was CEO of NAB, I would have thought that process would be more stringent than a footy club.

The more amazing thing to me is that a man of his obvious intellect and capability would believe this crap and put it ahead of the real world.

That is actually a very good point, they did *smile* me to tears in the 80s and 90s.
Hang on. Wait a minute. You don’t ask a candidate for a role like that what business, chairmanship interests etc they have ? And then assess the conflicts or not of those ?

Please. That is standard, 101 recruitment policy for any half competent company of that size appointing into that sort of role.

Another case of ‘we didn’t know’ . not good enough by a long shot. I didn’t swallow that excuse the last time they trotted it out.

Being a religious belief and I assume an unpaid role, he wouldn't be under any obligation to declare it. I think it would be illegal to even ask about it wouldn't it?

I think Scott will be safe for 6 months. Hird will be announced as CEO and Director of Coaching, with Scott reporting directly into him

Absolutely not. Profit, not for profit, paid or unpaid.

In my role I got asked beforehand to declare everything from current and past directorships - paid or otherwise - to vested interests (eg shares including in my super), to those of my family, to past roles and potential conflicts. And I have to update and certify this every year.

And every time I set off to work on a contract for one of our clients, I have to do the same thing for that client.

101 stuff.

I've just read Thorburn's statement on LinkedIn. Bloke's off with the fairies.

Says 'media and leaders in our community ... made it clear that my Christian faith and my association with a church are unacceptable in our culture if you wish to hold a position of leadership in society'.

Talk about twisting the narrative to suit yourself.

The prime minister of Australia is a devout Catholic. Faith and an association with a church are not the issues.

Subscribing to a bigot's version of Christianity is what marks you as a wholly loathsome character.

And how about the sanctimonious victim playing?

Entirely on point for an Essendon administrator to entirely misread the room.

Stupid club.
