Playing reserves park footy!
Seriously? There was strong talk of him being rookie drafted last year.

Edit: read that he's going to play for the Knights again as a 19 year old.

Would have done a much better job. Unlike Rance he is a smart footballer who knows how to read the play and the ball in flight. Wouldn't have got sucked into unwinnable one on one contests like Rance did.

Still would have tried Chaplin first but Grimes would have been next up. Rance always gets killed by big forwards. Not Dimma's finest moment.

What a house wives view. The ball went into Cloke under no pressure. More over, nobody helped Rance either.
For those who didn't watch the way Essendon dealt with the Collingwood forwards today (& I hate Essendon) watch the replay and then ask again " was it Rance? Or was it tactics"

A bit of both. tRance is out of form and was average but both the midfield and other Backs did him no favours!

It was one of the things our backs did well when we had Mcguane, Moore and Thursfield playing together. individually they weren't great backmen, but worked OK as a team.

is it just me, or has anyone else been a little disappointed with Grimes so far this year, perhaps just the last couple of weeks. (by disappointed i am judging him against the standards (AA standards) he has set previous years, and ignoring the fact he is a 20game KPD)
i dont think his disposal has been as sure as last year, nor has his defending been as excellent.

curious as to how others have seen him, and i did notice he got votes on Friday from some, and against the pies too.

again, im not saying he has been poor or anything, i just dont think he has hit the heights he has shown he is capable of.

Easying back into it. Solid without being tremendous.
Biggest thing I have noticed is whilst he's minding his own player fairly well, he's not pushing to contests as much.
Nor is he cleaning up Rance's mess..

Grimes underperforming? Interesting.

I'd say if you were to take Grimes out of that side, people would soon notice the difference as it would be quite stark.

Grimes hasn't performed as well as he can, but I haven't seen anything to suggest he isn't on track to become our best defender.
Friday was a poor game for him, but still pretty good, which says a lot about him.

coaches know stuff.

reckon they are keen to get dylan away from the incoming ball?

Was at the game versus the Dockers, and I thought he was very good.

fair enough. didnt see it myself (watching on TV). disposal wise 3 of his 8 kicks were miskicks- one a scrubber along the ground in the back pocket, one which he kicked over Jackson's head on the back flank and another where he went for a torp and he was lucky it went thru a docker players hands.
defensively he didnt seem to impact as 3rd man up like he has in the past.

again i'll say for a 20 game KPD he is tracking very well.

Actually that scrubber kick from the back pocket Brodders I thought he did on purpose. On the tv it looked like he had noone to kick to other than a one on one, so the scrubber kick headed towards the boundary for the players to run on it and take it over the line, which I reckon was the intention.

Perhaps I am being generous, but I remember thinking at the time it was actually a pretty good play.

I think Grimes will be happier once Chaplin is back in and he doesn't have to play a key defensive role. His kicking hasn't been as good as I remembered it being, though.
