Dustin Martin

Most of those behinds came in the back half of the year.
Again he was more dangerous around goals when he spent more time on the ball.
I’m not arguing with you on the point about him playing more on ball, I am a fan of him spending more time there especially at centre bounces.
I was just pointing out that his goals to shots on goal ratio was the worst it has been since very early in his career. He could easily have kicked 30-35 goals in 2023. Quite often during the season I had mentioned at games that Dusty was missing goals that we would expect him to kick.
At his best Dimma would play him as a mid and let him decide when he went forward but as you say even when playing on ball he generates shots on goal.

I've seen 8 flags and KB was enormous in 5 of them. Dusty's highlight package is supreme, but he still has work to do in my humble opinion to surpass the great number 29.
It is a miracle that KB survived opposition thugs trying to knock him out week after week. Courage, consistency class and durability.
I think it was 21 goals in the 1980 finals series.
KB’s finals record is incredible. I’ve sometimes wondered how many norm smiths he may have won if they gave them out in the in the 60-70s. He would have been in the votes in 67,69, 73 and 74 and of course won it in 1980.

All good.
Whilst he will always be the goat, it could just be a symptom of getting older & not being able to quite do the things he used to.

We need to remember Dusty turning 33 next year & is now the oldest player on our list. His best footy isn't in front of him.
Just hope he can still play to a great standard again & stay injury free.

KB was retrospectively judged to have been BOG in 73, so that’s two Norm Smith’s for him. He was surely among the best in 74 as well.

1967 was definitely Billy Barrot but KB was in the best 3-4 players on the ground
1969 KB could have won it, in the best 2-3.
Hart had 20 odd possessions and kicked 3 in 1973 but Bartlett was probably BOG.
Same with 1974 but Sheedy would have been close as well.

I always thought that my hero Mike Green was BOG in the 69 game. That whole series he was fantastic. Bartlett was a champion no doubt and a great final’s player

Didn’t Mike Sheehan vote him BOG in 69 as well? He was very good in all of them.

I'm loving this thread!

Listening to all of you old crackers go on about the 60s and 70s makes me feel so young and 'vibrant'!

Many of the points were close shots that we felt would normally have been goals.
Maybe its age related but overall it looked like his kicking touch was just a little off.

I remember one game he kicked a couple, had one just wide, another from 50m out touched on the line and then a poster.
A 2 goal very good game could have been a 5 goal masterclass rout.

I love Dusty and have always believed that he will finish his career at the Tigers and be a one club player, but while listening to a totally unrelated podcast I got fairly p!ssed off.

The podcast is part of a series by Andrew Rule called Life and Crimes. The episode is called The Rohypnol Brothers and details the exploits of a couple of scumbags in NZ. Rule mentions that NZ authorities are very unhappy with Australia for deporting blokes back to NZ.

He then talks about Dusty’s dad (by way of example). In setting up his point he tells listeners about what a star of the game Dusty is and that there is a concerted effort to get him to a Queensland club. This was almost a throwaway line but it really jarred with me. (29:40 in the podcast for those wanting to hear it)

Either it is quite common knowledge with journos in Melbourne that the AFL are going to support/facilitate a massive offer to Dusty, or this bloke is just parroting what he’s read.

I’m hoping it’s the latter.

Think Mike would have been an apprentice in '69
Damb, never thought about or realised Mike Sheahan being cousin's with the Test cricketer Paul Sheahan 🤦‍♂️

And he's got a far better Aussie Rules resume than I'll ever have and an entry on "AustralianFootball.com" website

"Sheahan is the cousin of former Test cricketer Paul Sheahan. He had a brief football career himself, playing 63 senior matches for the Werribee Football Club in the Victorian Football Association and for North Hobart Football Club in the Tasmanian Football League."

Actually that jogs the memory. BOG Quirk. Greenie best Tiger and would have won the Gary Ayers medal.
One thing that surprised me was the awarding of the 1975 medal to Peter Knights. I cannot imagine a player from a side beaten by nearly 10 goals winning a Norm Smith. Brent Crosswell would have gone close (Crosswell was near BOG in 1970 too).

Derm could have got it in 1985. Kicked 8 out of 14 and the Hawks got pumped by 13 goals. But Simon Madden got the Norm Smith for a bag of 6.
