Dustin Martin

I am too unfortunately. I reckon it would have happened this year except that there was no way a deal could be struck that would have satisfied all parties.

Grigg is close with Dusty as is Dimma obviously. The lifestyle change. It all makes sense
Heading towards 34 - Think we got the best years of him. Not worried

the only compensation we receive if he leaves is huge salary cap space which should free us up to land another big fish...

I'd have thought we might be planning to sign him up for $5-600k for a max of 2 years depending on how his 2024 season goes. Not massive cap space really.

Reportedly $1.5 mil to nothing is (if he goes)
The bulk of that salary is already accounted for though by the fact contracts are staggered based on what cash they'll have available in any given year. Martins money has already been used on other contracts from 2024 onwards.

Martin goes from $1m to 1.4m in 2024, and that cash will go to Lynch's contract in 2025 where he will go from something like $800k to $1.5m during that time.

Once Lynch's contract ends in 2025, that cash probably goes to Bolton who will go from $500k to $900k for the start of his new 5 year deal and so on.

The only cash freed up from Martin leaving will be what we have reserved to sign him up for after his deal ends, so if we think we'd pay Dusty $5-600k over maybe a couple of years to stay then that is what will be freed up, not $1.4m

Sure, I was referring to if he left only.

I just don't see Dusty leaving Richmond other than to retire. If he is to go to the Suns there will be all this fan fare and he will be under pressure to do a lot more media, something he has been very reluctant to do in the past. Also has to meet all the new players and build relationships there.

If Dusty wants to play on in 2025/26 then he is better signing with Richmond. Not like he needs the money

Dusty will leave at the conclusion of 2024. He will be a 300+ game player and tiger immortal. Nothing will ever sully his reputation.

Reckon he received very good advice to stay at the RFC for 1 more year when considering his options at season's end.

I hope you are correct, but only Dusty knows what Dusty will do.
He has become my all time fave Tiger. A Richmond Immortal.

That’s my view of it. Honestly, I think Dusty would do this just to stick it up the media one more time.
