Why over-complicate it ? If he's still good enough and is seen to be part of our long term future you offer another contract at market value. Not that hard. Or alternatively we try and play the trade game as we've done so successfully in the past. Lesson: leave a good thing alone ..
So what was complicated? Two of my possible scenarios are the same as you've just advocated.
I just threw up a few possibilities that all clubs would have to consider every year about their list management procedures. We're smack bang in the middle of a situation where the club needs to decide if it's genuinely good enough to contend ( not my view ) so we just top up a bit. Or we step back hard n trade a premium now for the opportunity to do a major refresh n try to bounce back with a fist full of quality in a couple of years.

Ok, well Tiger for Life option for me. I don't reckon its a good move to trade a premium for the hope of getting a potential one or two back. A bird in the hand and all that ..

As a fan that's my preferred, but I'd hate to see us lose a talent like Dusty n get stuffed over by the AFL's version of compo so I'm hoping the club locks in another extension before we get to the drawn out *smile* of we're thinking about negotiating soon. If that's going to happen maybe the club needs to explore all possible options beforehand.
I support the club first, then the players so would prefer a win win situation if possible rather than getting shafted later.

It s a bit of a sad indictment on my behalf as a long suffering supporter but I tend to support the player before the club.. from Knighter to Richo to Lids to Jack to Cotchy to Rancey to Dusty etc etc

He levelled up in 2016. I'm expecting Dusty to level up again next year. He's demonstrated improvement over time and in bursts. His few flaws are obvious. He'll work on them.

He'll be a bigger star next year.

rance, dusty and Jack are our three most important players.
cannot get rid of any of these three.

if you do, may as well get rid of them all, have 7 first rd draft picks (2 first rd picks for each of them plus our own first), stay on the bottom for a few years and look forward to a premiership tilt in about 6 years time when all these first rounders start to come into their prime.
all or nothing if ur thinking of trading any of these.......

There is no way the power brokers at RFC will let Dusty leave. They will up their contract offer. They know he is simply too valuable from both a playing and marketing perspective to have him go to Adelaide of all places. The club has also been very lenient with Dusty in the last year or so with regards to his fathers situation and other off field activities (where the club backed him in 110% in mounting public scrutiny).

For his part, I doubt Dusty wants to leave the club anyway, especially if the contract side of things is sorted out - as it should be.

I'd say, move on, there is nothing to see here.

Mr Miyagi Franchise to open in Adelaide...

I'd be open to the idea if the reported money is accurate. That kind of coin is too good to refuse.
I'd ask for a couple of young up & comers if they want him that bad.

Swanny's not moving to Adelaide is he? I doubt Dusty would leave his best mate behind.

Maybe.
Dusty "No way am I leaving"
Adelaide "$$$$"
Dusty" So, who's picking me up at the airport?"

lmao first Jack, Lids, Cotch...next itll be a rumour that Rance is linked to swans or something.

he media are obsessed with us trading our top 5.

its funny our season is way over and yet we still make the headlines, the week of the prelims with these stupid rumours.
