Keep saying it..Wait until after the finals if he's going to play hardball.
Reckon you're worth a truckload of cash? Biggest name in the $port? Then show it on the biggest stage where legends are forged.
He hasn't done that yet like an Ablett or Franklin. In fact he went missing just 2 weeks ago in an important game against the Cats.

Agree. I'd prefer we wait until after the finals for 2 reasons.

To show us his true worth on the big stage in finals and secondly, to see all offers on the table so we're not bidding blind.

For all we know the merkin is just throwing numbers around.

Here's my 2c with all the different info, Dusty was as good as done, then North have come in with a massive offer, Dusty is now seriously waying it up, probably strongly leading one way now. I really think club have done all they can. There appears some good sources from North who strongly believe he will accept there offer. I really have no idea but if I had to guess I'd say gone. Surely there's no other club that could offer such a rediculous offer

The offer from North is bigger than what we have tabled but what people keep forgetting about is we have set up avenues for Martin to keep on earning good coin post football. The long term output is that he will earn more money with us. This is the deal breaker and why he will stay.

I've changed my position on this. If the difference between offers is $2.8mill as the Herald Sun is reporting, I think he'd be nuts not to take it and I won't begrudge him if he did. The kid's got one shot at this. He's not going to have an industry-linked high earning career after this. He's not the mentoring type nor is he the public speaking type.

It's interesting reading all the opinions.

There was a post earlier describing the two camps on this. I am in the 3rd camp which is I haven't got the slightest idea what he will do but I just want it over and done one way or another.

The only point I would make is that if he has decided to stay then there is absolutely no reason why it shouldn't get done and announced soon. The longer it goes on the more it seems likely that it is delayed for one of 3 reasons
1. He hasn't decided
2. He is leaving
3. He is just being bloody minded and sticking with the "I will announce at the end of the season" mantra

Let me sum up this entire thread.

We have 2 camps:

1 - Those who think the sun shines out of Dusty's rear end and we should just pay him whatever he demands. Hell, let's give him the entire salary cap minus minimum match payments that we have to pay the remaining plebs on our list in order to field a side. Until he retires at age 65.

2 - Those who are more sensible and are willing to offer a fair contract and if he goes, so be it and we'll move on.

Is that about the gist of it?

Yeah, but the group you missed are the ones who take him at his word and aren't worrying about it till end of season.

And if it is #3 then he has no consideration for the RFC, who could be making plans for life after Dusty,
as Benny Gale said sometime ago.

I will try to put this in perspective folks.
I have a job.
My boss wants me to stay.
Your boss wants to give me more money to bring my skills to your work.
I will be doing the same job.
The outcome might not be the same, my new job might not have customers as good as my current one.
I will get more money though for doing the same amount of work........
So is it about money?
Is it about success?
Is it about a certain type of loyalty?
Is it a combination of each? I would like to think Dusty fully understands and is being advised accordingly.
Gut feel is he stays because he is in a good spot.

Still not sure what the fuss is about.

Dusty nominated a window, he's sticking to it.

That's his right and I applaud him for it.

Does anyone know if that figure North are offering is real or is it the media saying it? I was sure he would stay until I seen that stupid offer today. Dusty may be seriously considering it for that amount - if real.

He may have a b & f, an all Australian selection and maybe a Brownlow.
BUT, he is yet to prove his real worth as a genuine great by performing in a final.
He has had 3 opportunities and like the team has failed.

If he goes to that miserly, pathetic place called North Melbourne, good luck playing in front of 12,000 people each week and no finals for the next 3-4 years.

Gary Ablett Jnr says hi.

Think a few people are down the wrong track expecting to trade with North. Dusty's situation is totally different to Danger's. Danger "wanted" to go to Geelong, Dusty doesn't "want" to go to North, he "wants" to be paid well. If push comes to shove and he holds out for the North money then we have two options. First, we match North and he stays. Second, we don't match North and he leaves. I don't see a third (Danger) option where we match and he still wants to leave.

IF north have $1.5 how massive a risk is it to sink 12% of your salary cap on 1 player over 7 years. The next administration will be forever blaming the negligent call (of the current board) , in a non premiership window to appease its fans last/second last finishing season. This smacks of Tigers type rebuilding of the past (Nathan Brown recruiting)

What happens when their gates receipts are low, they are getting poor Ettihad deals and have no backup revenue from pokies (not that I advocate for them).. Knock Knock Knock - we need more money Mr Gill.... bugger off, go borrow some back from Dusty.

They are not a top 4 Melbourne power club, they cant rely on monster crowds to up its coffers, they have a history of playing above their wight via astute drafting and player development. This smacks of the biggest North Melbourne short cut in its history, one that may sink them as a Melbourne club.

Be careful North Melbourne, you might get the number 4 from the tigers from 2018 but at what cost!!!!
