I can confirm from a very senior figure that Dusty was offered a significant sign on fee as we have room in this years salary cap and as a gesture of goodwill.

I assume that if it's a 'sign on fee' it's only payable if he signs a new contract with us BT.

I don't think it's as sexy as it sounds... as these days if you only pay 98% of the cap you can spend 102% the next year (if we're targeting someone else). Although of course its always nice to get a little bit extra in your pocket.

I wonder how much getting rid of Chocco last year has cost us in terms of Dusty's price. I also recall Chocco making comments about Dusty on SEN saying that he's very loyal. Let's hope that loyalty doesn't mean being vindictive on behalf of Chocco.

$200k sounds very sexy to me!!

Trade the imbecile if he keeps this crap up for much longer. Over it. Commit or pi$$ off. Players come and go and clubs survive and prosper eg Hawks post Buddy and Cats Ablett. He will be a bomb at another club I feel

thats a bit harsh

I think this is Richmond's final offer, and I think they will tell him that.

He has right to be well remunerated for his exceptional talent but he is also part of a team, with a salary cap, trying to put together a Premiership team. If a $6 million contract is not enough then its time we moved on. we might win this battle for his services, but will probably lose the war on winning a premiership if we pay too much.

Absolutely agree. Can't sell the farm for one player no matter how good.

A tad harsh, but yep. There's always more to a footy club than just one star player. If Dusty can't be stuffed signing the deal then see ya later enjoy the rest of your life. There's forty players on the list, not just one. There's a more than fair offer on the table, if he wants massive overs he can go elsewhere.

Still recall one of Buddy's comments when he left Hawforn for Sydaknee for the megabucks n snubbed GWS on the way through, that he wanted to play for more premierships yada yada *smile*. Went purely for the dollars n Hawforn won a couple more flags without him.

The man is going to get paid ... deservedly so and the club has to do what is right as well. Its footy or nothing for the young man, its just a shame his opportunities outside of footy are limited as that could have really lubed the contract so as to speak. He can't do media like Cotchin, Jack or Rancey. This is it for the lad.

I don't want the club to go and break the bank to keep him. It's just a contract and there is no onfield guarantee as good old Yarran showed us. At the same time if you begrudge Dustin for trying to get adequately payed to set himself up for life then ask yourself what would you do in his place?

my mail (from a source close to his management group) is that they may wait until the brownlow outcome as this will add to his value. They also believe a team may come from nowhere with a huge offer once they know the situation with a couple of veterans (hawthorn or stkilda?).

He also stated following an initial meeting with richmond the 2 sides were a long way apart from a dollars POV and there were concerns about a poor year and hardwick being sacked and richmond going into rebuild mode, he stated a primary objective for any of the clients was to win a premiership

Are you serious? You really think clubs are willing to offer more for a player because he wins a freakin brownlow, as if that makes a difference?

Give me a spell, there is a lot of sh!te in this thread.

Cough, woewodin, cooney, cough cough

It's a good point. I doubt that Dusty will have much going for him employment-wise post-footy. He needs to maximise his earnings now. Not that we should break the bank for him either.

Happy to play this offer out as a game of poker. He will not leave unless someone throws 1.5mil at him and that will not happen. Clubs will still see him as a risk.

This is where the club can help. Work through the club and club's contacts to help Dusty find work/purpose after football. Be it a boot studder, greens keeper, some role in the Korin Gamadji Institute, whatever.

But if all that matters now is maximising his paycheck today, then we as a club need to have a limit. No matter how good the player, they are all just one Nathan Brown leg break away from being worthless to the club. We can't gamble our future on keeping one player

Have to back Dan Richardson in here.

He has the score on the board with regard to comtract negotiations

So after earning $6 mil in 6 years you think Dusty is going to head off to Centrelink to find a job?

Most of us will never see $6 mil let alone earn it in only six years on top of what he has earnt to date. Dusty will most likely spend his life post footy partying with the likes of Dane Swan without a care in the world

6 mill (minus current spending) has to last what, 45-50 years? That's got to weigh on someone used to high income as a high grade player. I'm not saying we should pay overs, just trying to see things from a highly paid bloke bloke with pretty limited earning capacity.
