Hahahahaha.....I like your post CC Tiger.
I hope I'm going to like yours Pappy.

I'm starting to think if his not signed or just going through the fine print in the next 3 weeks, I'd say his gone.

Most definatly giving his all and playing superb footy, is it his content with his decision to leave and just giving his all to deliver a flag ? You would think his made his mind up by now and after 17 rounds I'd think the football club has gone above his expectations, so why hasn't he signed ? I'm nervous as this signature is as massive as any in the past 37 years at Punt road.

The club surely realise that Dusty holds all the cards. There shouldn't have been room to up the offer because he should have already been presented with the most we could have offered. IO hope we don't screw this up

Dusty's current contract doesn't compel the club to pay him the extra 20% THIS YEAR but he and his manager have asked for the RFC to pay it anyway.

Richmond have basically said: No worries Dusty, just accept our latest offer and we will give you the extra 20% this season. If you don't you can whistle Dixie cos you won't see a cent of that 20%.

You hear all these stories about what a great bloke Dusty is and how much he loves the club but the way he is handling himself over his contract I believe both statements are overblown. After holding the club to ransom (not for the first time) over re-signing he now has the ordasity to ask for a 20% pay increase this year that he isn't entitled to without committing to the club long term.

Is that gospel Borders or are you going or what Niall said ?

my mail (from a source close to his management group) is that they may wait until the brownlow outcome as this will add to his value. They also believe a team may come from nowhere with a huge offer once they know the situation with a couple of veterans (hawthorn or stkilda?).

He also stated following an initial meeting with richmond the 2 sides were a long way apart from a dollars POV and there were concerns about a poor year and hardwick being sacked and richmond going into rebuild mode, he stated a primary objective for any of the clients was to win a premiership

I'm in no position to know what is the gospel re Dusty's contract CC. Are you suggesting that Niall made it up? If so do you know what the gospel actually is?

I have no real idea Broders, I got told via a reasonable sauce early in the season he'd be staying, I just thought you may have heard what Niall had said from a different source, making it more believable.

As I said earlier I'm not overly confident at this point, 6 mil 6 years and still putting it off to seasons end, he has every right to get best deal he can, however most elite players who stay at thier club are happy to take less then market value to push towards a premiership.

Jason Dunstall made the point when Buddy left Hawthorn that the club has to do what is right for the club as a whole and as good a player as Buddy is Hawthorn simply couldn't match the offer and not from a salary cap stand point but more what doing so would do to the club in terms of attracting other players and harmony within the playing group.

It's easy to say that Richmond should match any offer to keep Dusty but what are the consequences of doing so. I know I'm going back a few years but we did a similar thing to keep Brian Taylor and lost Cloke and Raines as a result. Taylor then left the next time his contract came up. Sometimes going all in on one player is not the answer.

When you read posts like Butch's it's hard to be confident isn't it? An 11th hour bid from Hawthorn is absolutely a possibility and if Dusty is all about the money it's entirely possible that he will leave the club at seasons end.

Butch also mentioned that the primary objective is to win a premiership yet screwing the club for every available cent is counter intuitive to achieving that aim.

Yep, only time will tell and I'm sure the truth will come out on how these contract talks went! If he gets us a flag this year he can do what ever he likes ;D

Trade the imbecile if he keeps this crap up for much longer. Over it. Commit or pi$$ off. Players come and go and clubs survive and prosper eg Hawks post Buddy and Cats Ablett. He will be a bomb at another club I feel

Absolutely CC

I think this is Richmond's final offer, and I think they will tell him that.

He has right to be well remunerated for his exceptional talent but he is also part of a team, with a salary cap, trying to put together a Premiership team. If a $6 million contract is not enough then its time we moved on. we might win this battle for his services, but will probably lose the war on winning a premiership if we pay too much.

I can confirm from a very senior figure that Dusty was offered a significant sign on fee as we have room in this years salary cap and as a gesture of goodwill.
