Dustin Martin

DUSTIN Martin’s manager has hit out at claims he is holding out on a deal with Richmond because of bitterness over a previous contract.

Ralph Carr said the claim aired on The Footy Show last Thursday night was “ridiculous”.

“I’ve been a manager for 25 years — do you really think I would let emotion get in the way of such an important deal?” Carr told the Herald Sun from Los Angeles.

“It’s just not true and Richmond Football Club knows it’s not true. Neil Balme has clarified that.”

I'd be more confident if Ralph called him Balmey, but I like that they are on the same page publicly.

Prove it then Carr and get it done.

Numbers such as 1.5 mil thrown around are a joke. Dusty shouldn't be on too much more than Dangerfield.

Be a team player and sign.

Don't compare Dangerfield to Martin
Dangerfield was always going to leave and play for the cats.
Martin doesn't care who he plays for as long as his pockets are full.
For him not to sign even after the pay restructure is worrying. The longer it drags on the closer he is to walking out.
Got a bad feeling
Even that dud at Footscray signed up.

JJ signs on at Bulldogs, Fyfe says he will at Fremantle and yet Martin continues to drag this out. Not looking good for Richmond at all

I believe there are 2 points here regarding Dusty and his contract.

1. He wants to stay a Tiger
2. He wants to maximise what will most likely be the biggest contract of his life

You can't blame him really, on either point.

Both have been sorted ages ago. The club has put through their final offer and we keep on hearing he loves Richmond.
But has anyone actually heard him say it?
Richmond shouldn't be sitting and waiting. They need a plan if he leaves.
Rockliff or Zorko
Cameron or lynch

Agreed. At least Fyfe has said a deal isn't far away. Not once have the Martin camp said he wants to stay a Tiger etc , it's all been we want to wait till the end of the season.

JJ signed cos his value is dropping by the week. 5 years may be a long time to have a hbf who cant get a kick.

Fwiw... Caro in the age article today on Buckley had this to say..." but the truth is Martin seems likely to stay at Richmond"

so Scott at North has made a sales pitch to both Kelly and Martin, is this legal?

also Carr texting a board member telling him with every goal scored the price goes up.

I think they can discuss whatever they like. They just can't sign anything yet. Nothing wrong with testing the waters. We also have he right to match any offer made.

Who says Carr is doing that? What if he kicks a point, does the price go down? Should we play him in the backline?
Gotta be someone taking the *smile*

The non commitment at this point is definitely a worry, however it's as bigger issue with list management, the extra bucks we may have had or will have, could help land a Lever or Kelly type , could also help with front ending some of our youngsters contracts. Another point is if we are seen going after a big fish , is Ralph going to say FFS Dusty wants that extra coin, as Benny says it's just the way Footy is now, hopefully he re signs and we don't miss the boat on others.

I feel that the longer it takes to sign Martin the more unlikely he is to stay. Why is this taking so long? Is Carr in Santorino having a good time and making us sweat over the decision?
